    Arrrgh, scuffed my Carrera Sport Wheel

    The other evening I turned into my driveway and cut the corner a bit short. The very outside edge of the rear wheel rode up slightly onto the curbing, then slipped off back onto the roadway. This produced a inch long scuff with vertical gouges marks right into the rim of the wheel.

    Anybody know how to repair this, or am I stuck with a scuffed rim for the duration?

    Don't worry Greentree, take it to the shop. That can be easily repaired and will look 100% as good as new

    You can even DIY. Modern touch up paints are very forgiving.

    Just got through washing the 911 in preparation for the coming week. I found another longish, but very narrow scuff on the rim of other rear wheel. This must have happened last Wednesday when I backed into a curb at a business park. What rotten luck! Two scuffs in the same week! And I'm so careful when parking, too! The front wheels are still pristine, though. I can get the rears repaired next time I change tires. Thanks for the info.

    That's smart. I do the same thing. Waiting for a few stone chips, door dings, minor windscreen chips to accumulate before getting them fixed. No sense in getting upset over normal wear and tear. Oops..., wait a minute: windscreen impacts should be taken seriously, some should be repaired with resin ASAP.

    You should send it to an outfit capable of doing a complete wheel refinishing, such as Wheels Enhancement in LA. Beware of half-done jobs (like the ones done by the mobile operators) which will show the defect as time passes.

    There's a guy in Oklahoma City I highly recommend. Mike Lindsey. He's been refinishing wheels for many years. He even takes older Fuchs alloys and widens them for those transitional years...

    What do they actually do anyway? Smooth away the ridges and fill the gouges with epoxy, maybe?

    Mike Lindsey (http://www.lindseyracing.com/) will TIG weld up anything that can't be cosmetically repaired and then machine it back and then polish and paint them to factory specs. He did a couple wheels for me years ago and he's only getting better.

    check him out. He's a member of the Porsche Club of America.
