Very interesting test. R8 with standard Xenon (pic 1) and very pricey optional LED lights (pic 2)
Result: Xenon lights are still better than the first generation LEDs and of course they are much cheaper.
Only advantage may be, that some think LEDs actually look better than the Xenons:

Article said marginally better. Range is pretty much the same. According to the test LEDs are brighter with not so harmonic beam structure(my tranlation from German since some frazes in nativ German are difficult to tranlate to English). Also price of €3590 in Germany is pretty high, even for sportscar like R8...

The LED headlights provide an even higher colour temperature. According to the article, the light distribution is less homogeneous as on the Xenon variant.
The mandatory pitch of illumination for the low-beam light gives an advantage to cars with elevated attachment of the headlights, such as SUVs. The lower the headlights, the smaller the range of illumination.
