997 Turbo - Hockenheim Track Time impressive
As a reminder, the 997 GT3 was only 0.3 seconds faster (semi-slicks too). Impressive.

I don't know if somebody already reported this but apparently Sport Auto testdrove the 997 Turbo in Hockenheim with semi-slicks and the time was 1 min. 11,9 seconds or so.

But really, shouldn't the Turbo be faster than the GT3?

The Turbo is a road car. The GT3 is a track car, much better suited to the flat surface.

Which brings me to my guess about the Nordschleife time: definetely better than the 997 GT3.

Yes, the Z06 time is impressive but I don't understand those comments about run-flat tires. They do pretty well in the dry, only when it comes to wet pavement or temperature changes, they may not be that good. Also the run-flats on the Z06 aren't just "ordinary" run-flats but have been developed for the Z06, incl. the rubber mixture.
Regarding the 997 GT3: the time I posted was in HOCKENHEIM, Kleiner Kurs. This is a track which favors mostly light cars with a good chassis setup since it is NOT a high speed track. The 997 Turbo time is impressive, not THAT impressive but still very very good.
Which brings me to my guess about the Nordschleife time: definetely better than the 997 GT3.
Still: the 997 Turbo is heavier and more expensive to repair, it is NOT such a good track car like the GT3 is.
Unless one doesn't care about tire usage, brake usage, different chassis setups, etc.

I found 3 lap times for the GT3 when I searched the net:
7:39 - Porsche 997 GT3, 415 PS/1395 kg, (Sport Auto 05/06)
7:42 - Porsche 997 GT3, 415 PS/1440kg, Walter Röhrl (Automobil 05/06)
7:48 - Porsche 997 GT3, 415 PS/1440kg (Sport Auto 07/06)
Don't know why the weight is different for the first entry.

Ok, lets say it is wrong then. But good old Walter is not wrong with 7:42. This still leaves the Turbo (with Michelin Cup) and the GT3 within 2 seconds from eachother round the Ring.

This time from Walter is on a public track day and he had to overtake 5 cars. Which make some difference![]()
