    Porsche 991 prototype up in flames

     1st  - Why a 911 specially for chinese market ? (maybe more plastic for less cost ? Smiley)

    2nd - What could cause the fire?

     Iain, I don't recall writing that. I believe you are confusing me with someone else.

    I did say that Ferrari being a small company tends to truncate it's testing compared to companies like Porsche which fortunately does extensive testing as evidence by the above test mule fire.

     unbelievable - after all my funny comments  on my friends 458 I will get lots of  now....

    Chinese market - what a rubbish comment.....maybe it's the cover hiding the car which caught it first....which is going to be probably the explanation no matter what

    Difference is, in the case of the 458 the test cars were the first customer cars and perhaps even beyond those.

    1. I doubt that the testdriver(s) made any comment about the car, thus I don't have a clue why somebody would say it was developed for the Chinese market (maybe it had some chinese markings on it and some genius interpreted this that way)

    2. This was a prototype, accidents like this can happen. The 458s which caught fire were final products. At least I hope so.

    I also found it odd that someone should start a story that it was "developed for the Chinese market", since the only difference would normally be a slightly different engine data mapping to better comply with local fuels or noise / consumption regulations. Smiley

    Next time one of my prototypes goes up in flames, I too will explain to the media that it was the prototype for the Chinese market!
