    C AMG Nuburgring suspension

    Available now on the new C55, which does have 4 exhaust pipes BTW.
    1100 Euros in Germany.
    Said to redefine sedan car handling by miles.
    Thousands of hours of testing on the infamous circuit.
    These are quotes from the four AMG engineers after an interview with respected journalist Peter Robinson.
    -" We did for, Just for us!"
    -"The Sachs damper are 20% stiffer... That's the only change... There is NO comfort compromise, so the ride is..." and the head engineer did not finish teh sentence.
    -"Maybe we will sell 50 a year"
    This is a change from Merc usual behaviour. And one that I applause.
    RC, do you thik such a set up will be available on other AMG models.
    Since they're making quite a big fuss about it, I presume it's substantially different to the Pack Performance for the SL. True?

    yes, Autocar.
    And sorry about the quotes, my typing errors.
    They basically meant: No compromise. They did not have the costumers on their mind when they worked on the suspension setup, but just their own pleasure.

    Wishful thinking, Francois. AMG engineers can talk as they like but no AMG Mercedes so far (not even the SL55 with the F1 Performance Package) had a Porsche drive feel.
    BTW: SPORT AUTO tested the CLK 55 AMG with the Nuerburgring Suspension and they were very disappointed. Go figure...

    Wishful thinking, Francois. AMG engineers can talk as they like but no AMG Mercedes so far (not even the SL55 with the F1 Performance Package) had a Porsche drive feel.

    If this is the only change, then the standard C55 better have a good setup. What are the chances?

    True man.
    I don't think we can get Porsche feel in anything else than a Porsche really if that makes any sense.
    But Merc comes a long way. At least they're heading in the right direction.

    I saw the autocar mag today, basicaly the AMG engineers were told to find the perfect handling for the car without losing any ride comfort and they seem quite enthusiastic and happy about it, even Mercedes' top brass.

    I heard from other people that the C55 AMG is Mercedes' finest handling salooon, so pretty big claims, lets just see how it fares~?

    The mag also had a review of it, unfortunatley it didn't seem worth buying, basically its stil not as good as the much much cheaper and 10 million times better BMW M3, but its better than the C32 in handling and the ride is firmer than before due to 19inch wheels. The Speedshift doesn't upshift at all, and it won't even downshift or kickdown, so you have full manual control, so if you were in 4th gear approaching a stop light and forget to change, it'll still be in 4th, not sure how good that is sicne its not Ferrari F1 or BMW SMG, systems which actually blip the throttle upon downshift, as always, can't comment until I try it

    Oh well, even with new management, seems AMG will probably never satisfy the sports car public, and all we have here is "just another Mercedes-Benz with torque to match a diesel truck engine, and Hp to match an F1 car, thats it"
