    Toyota set to quit Formula One

    Toyota Motor is to follow Honda and BMW out of Formula One racing to save costs as it braces for its second straight annual loss.

    Toyota’s withdrawal deals a fresh blow to F1, which has been rocked by scandals, management disputes and an exodus of sponsors and car manufacturers amid the global economic downturn.

    What does this mean for the future of F1 with less and less factory backed teams and more independent teams?

    This is good for Sauber, it might give a place for his team if he finds the last amount he needs to make a comeback. I hope he will. Anyway, next year it will be really interesting.

    This should guarantee Sauber a spot now assuming they have a budget for 2010.

    One can only dream that Ralf Schumacher will fill one of Sauber's seats. Smiley

    Perhaps Toyota will go back to Le Mans? Their GT1 program was amazing!

     Another major manufacturer in sports car racing would be great.

    In 1998 they easily had the pace to win at Le Mans. If I recall correctly it was transmission problems that really hindered them and gave Porsche a nice 50th anniversary present.

    As other  japanese manufactures ( Honda, Subaru) they seem to think that car racing in any form does not show a good image for their brands. They want to now to seen as low polluting brands with a real commitment to go ''green''.

    I will not miss Toyota. Before we had lots of ' smaller' teams and it worked actually much better then when the big car manuctures came in officially.

    It looks like one by one the manufacturer teams are pulling out which may eventually leave only the genuine racing teams and Ferrari.
