Finally!! Turbo and C4 S Cab.

PORSCHE WILL REVEAL two open-top versions of the 911 over the next four months in a move aimed at wringing extra sales out of today's six-year-old model prior to the arrival of next year's heavily upgraded car.

First out of the blocks is the 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet. Due at U.S. dealers in September, it mates the altered bodywork and four-wheel-drive underpinnings of the Carrera 4S with the soft-top and 320-hp, naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine of the Carrera Cabriolet.

The highlight of Porsche's drop-top 911 push, however, is a new Turbo Cabriolet-the first since the original ceased production in 1989. Spied under-- going testing near Porsche's Zuffenhausen headquarters, the new car goes into production later this summer with U.S. sales beginning after its debut in Frankfurt in early September.

Power for the 911 Turbo Cabriolet comes from the same twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder found in the hardtop. The engine's 420 hp will be channeled to all four wheels via either a six-speed manual or a five-speed Tiptronic gearbox. Packaging the fabric roof and stiffening the 911's floorpan will add 154 pounds to the vehicle's curb weight, but insiders say the convertible will still run 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and top out at about 180 mph-figures that should see the 911 Turbo Cabriolet in a close race with the Ferrari 360 Spider.

Extensive wind-tunnel testing ensures downforce created by the 911 Turbo Cabrio's rear wing is constant when running with the roof up or down.

The addition of the 4S Cabriolet and Turbo Cabriolet to the Porsche lineup brings to 11 the number of 911 derivatives-more than any time in the car's 39-year history. And there could be at least one more 911 model in store.

AutoWeek sources say Porsche has developed a successor to the 911 Speedster that is merely awaiting approval from Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking.

Re: Finally!! Turbo and C4 S Cab.

    I'm confused again

I talked to my dealer and he said there is no indication that Porsche will introduce C4 S or Turbo Cab.

He said they're not even allowed to take deposit for them.

His indication was that Porsche needs money and they'll introduce 997 before relying on making money off C4 S and Turbo Cab.

    Any comments?

Right now all sources indicate the introduction of the 996 Turbo Cab (no word on the C4S Cab) at the IAA 2003 in Frankfurt.
BUT: one of my sources told me, that there has been a decision to postpone the Turbo/C4S Cab until the 997 comes out. I really don't know what to believe anymore.

Re: Finally!! Turbo and C4 S Cab.

    Ron,

You should consider finding a new dealer. I have a TT Cab deposit at 2 Dealers. One of them says it is coming, and tells me I should get their 2nd car in Jan or Feb 04.

    turbo cabrio

I visited the Zuffenhausen plant last week and saw a number of turbo cabrios. They all looked like ready for the showroom.

Therefore, I would bet that the turbo convertible will be presented very soon (IAA Frankfurt). I cannot recall seing a 4s convertible however...

    Re: turbo cabrio

I think it is time for me to take a visit at the zuffenhausen plant too !!

    Re: turbo cabrio

    Interesting picture, please explain!

Re: How about a Turbo Targa...

It is just a 996 Targa, RC, It has a turbo engine lid, the reflecting stripe of the 4s and a Turbo bumper, and side airintakes
All as you can see but just a Targa (non Turbo).
It's not a official porsche car, just some Turbo Targa freak who restyled it.
Looks very nice indeed !...I think I'm going to sit and wait for the Turbo Cab to come ....if not....I probably will do the same to my Targa

    Re: announcement of turbo cab?

My dealer acknowledges the c4S but not the Turbo cab. Anyone have
a clue as to when it will be "official"?

    Re: announcement of turbo cab?

I think there are 2 possibilities:

    1) They'll introduce it at Franfurt IAA show as a surprise.
    or
    2) They figured it would be too expensive to sell in this economy and shelved the project.

Just heard today that the 996 Turbo Cab will be announced to the public soon. Official release should be at the IAA in Frankfurt.

    Turbo cab. order guide

    Just couple pages

    Re: announcement of turbo cab?

    Everyone,

Here is the most positive proof of the existance of the 996 Turbo Cab! It is an order guide dated May 2003!!!! Funny thing is that the Aerokit seems to be unavailable for the car?! That is puzzling since most of the spy video of the car shows the aerokit installed on the Turbo Cab while it makes it way around the 'Ring! Can anyone shead any light on the subject? Lastly, note the two or three new colors to be offered! Anyone know what they are going to look like?

The link to the order guide is here (PDF):

    <a href="http://www.imakenews.com/autospies/ORDERING_GUIDE_911_TURBO.pdf" target="_blank">http://www.imakenews.com/autospies/ORDERING_GUIDE_911_TURBO.pdf</a>

Enjoy! It came off the Auto Spy Website and it seems I beat Ron to the punch! Yes!!! :p

Update - Awe man!!! :( Ron beat me again!!!!

    Re: Turbo cab. order guide

And here it is again... "atlas grey" (also available for the gt3). And still noone has seen it...

    Re: announcement of turbo cab?

Robbie you did beat me to it, damn

    Re: Turbo cab. order guide

The new color Carmona Red could be a deep Red color like Imola Red on BMW M3 (just my seeumption)

    Atlas grey

It's difficult to judge on a computer screen, but it looks like atlas grey is between seal grey and slate grey.
Or maybe it's darker than slate grey?
    It looks good IMO.
Dark grey in general (Seal, Slate, Atlas) is a beautiful Porsche color.
    Fanch.

    Re: Atlas grey

i saw the color in the gt3 booklet as well. it should be between seal and slate, at least that's what my dealer said. But I have to see at least a sample of the real color, if not a whole car...

    Roll Over Bar

    XSL Option code.
    What is it?
They call it Roll Over Bar with deletion of rear seats.
Sounds more like Roll Over Cage to me, but I'm confused because according to this order guide, it is also available for the Cab version?
    Fanch.

    Color info, from BumperPlugs.com....

We have the codes for these new colors, and we'll be producing the plugs soon as well.

Suffice it to say that based on chemistry alone, the Carmona Red appears to be similar in color to a light Cabernet. The largest quantity in the mix is a translucent maroon, with Dark Red, Black and Red Pearl mixed in.

Atlas Grey has been around for years. Another German auto mfr used it in the late 80's and early 90's, and it could be the same or similar.

Once we confirm the chemistry we'll produce plugs for those who might want visuals.

Carmona Red is Cayenne Std. color
