    OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

    Gents,

    Here we go with the new options for MY 2006:

    - PCM 2 now reads MP3 files from CD in the internal CD reader.
    - Suppresion of the storage pocket behind the sport seats.
    - New two tones interior options (Black/ Stone, Black/ Sand and black/ Terracotta), already available for the Boxster.
    - And FINALLY, the one we've all been waiting for! The Carrera S POWERKIT!

    First amazing news: It comes with Sport Exhaust and Sport Exhaust chrome tips!!!
    Power goes to 381 hp with same engine displacement, ie. 3.8L

    0 to 100 kmh in 4.6 secs and Top Speed of 300 kmh!!!!!

    Main mods are new Cyl. heads, Exhaust Tubulars, New aluminium admission and additional radiator.

    Great!!!

    This new feature is so far only available for the Pepper, not yet for the 997. Did some checking.

    Wait so, there were rumors that porsche might move up the 997C2s and the 997C2 to make more room for the cayman. Does this have anything to do with this?

    That is correct!
    My dealer told me to expect to pay roughly 12,000 Euros.
    I will confirm this as soon as I get his email with the exact price.

    mp3 capability (may) be able to be 'retrofitted' via a firmware upgrade.

    but mabye not i think its a new chipset

    Sorry to repeat myself, but is this power kit a reaction to the cayman s. Meaning, there have been rumors that they are gonna bring up the power on carrera and carrera s to make more room for the cayman. Do you think this has anything to do with that?

    The MP3 capability will only be avilable for the Pepper so far, not the 997 yet.

    One source indicated that a simple PCM 2 software update would do the job. Another source indicated that the CD player in the PCM 2 has been modified to allow MP3 playing, meaning: no retrofit/software update for older units.
    It remains to be seen what the truth is.

    I heard something below 10000 Euro incl. 16% german VAT. This would be almost the same price Porsche charged for the "old" powerkit and it would make sense.
    12000 Euro would be way too much and I doubt that any customer would pay 12000 Euro for 26 more horses.
    The latest semi-official rumour I heard even indicated something around 7000-8000 Euro incl. 16% german VAT for the powerkit. As long as we don't have any official number, we shouldn't speculate.

    Interesting for a lot of people: the upcoming Carrera 4 is rumoured to get the same power like on the Carrera S BUT the Carrera 4 S may get the powerkit as a standard option from the start. Both, the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4 S are rumoured to have the wider body.

    I'd wish that Porsche would be customer friendly and offer the powerkit at a special price for customers who bought their cars BEFORE the official announcement.
    It would be OK if they'd pay for install, they could always make a deal with the dealers to send the "fixed" install cost bill to them.

    Note this one :
    SOT8602 : external radio antenna with pink fox tail on the top.(retrofit possible)

    RC i think Holminator is refering to the mp3 feature.

    furthermore, i am refering to the 997 -already- owners no mp3 feature if it is not possible to upgrade!!

    Abd for 3,6 LT no powerkit either
