    Porsche Parade

    Porsche Club of America's annual Porsche Parade starts Sunday in Fort Worth and goes through July 10th. I will be traveling there Sunday, towing another club member's 1965 356, which will compete in the event. We will return Wednesday. If I have time I will post some photos while I'm there.

    I'm in Fort Worth now. Here it is unloaded from the trailer and ready to go to the prep area. Judging starts early tomorrow for all Concours entries.

    I'm sure I will have many great photos by tomorrow but a couple of the cars I saw in the prep area were really outstanding. Here's one. Also many very interesting cars in the parking garage but the light is not so good there.

    That's correct. He had a camera with him and took several pictures of John's Dolphin Gray 356, which took second place, BTW! The awards ceremony was this evening. Peter Schwarzenbauer, President of PCNA, gave a brief speech prior to the awards, speaking mainly about the new 911.

    OK, I'm back home now. Time to post some photos.

    This is my view of the concours cars from my hotel room. For this event Fort Worth closed six blocks of Main Street, starting at the county courthouse, plus one block of the sidestreets on either side.

    This 911 was one of my favorites among the club racing group. The 914 behind it sounded the best though. I don't know what the 914 had in the engine compartment but it was clearly a highly tuned race motor. I just loved the sound of high-lift cams and big valves this motor made as it idled; the motor telling everyone that it could only barely tolerate going this slow.

    Preparation for the event was intense! The work these two are doing on the windshield doesn't even begin to show the effort involved. The two GT3's shown here are from Florida. They are both highly prepared.

    This was a very nice 356 Carrera. You can see John's neighboring Dolphin Gray 356 reflected on the side. This Carrera came from San Antonio and was the result of many weeks and months of hard work. Although it placed second in it's catagory, it won the competition's overall People's Choice and Judge's Choice awards. Very impressive.

    Here is a photo of John's 356, which placed 2nd in the touring catagory, and Peter Porsche speaking to the owner of the black 356 Carrera. During the awards ceremony I learned that this was the 26th PCA Porsche Parade that Peter has attended!

    Here is John's other entry, a 2001 Turbo. It placed 8th in a very crowded, intensely competitive field.

    The Concours d'Elegance judging and awards were on Monday. Tuesday was the Parade Rally and tech sessions. Wednesday and Thursday were Driver Education and Autocross at the Texas Motor Speedway. Friday and Saturday are Club Racing, also at the Texas Motor Speedway. Here is a photo of the DE event which I took Wednesday morning.

    I thought the black on black was striking, especially where it highlighted the seat frame.
