    997 Daytime Running Lights

    Anybody know about daytime running lights on the 997?

    I asked my Porsche dealership to activate the daytime running lights on my 997 coupe and what resulted is the headlights, side markers, parking lights, and taillights all coming on with the ignition.

    Is there a way to turn on head or parking lights only? Or are all lights on the the only option Porsche provides for daytime running lights?

    BTW, I have a base 997 without navigation, if that makes any difference.

    That's the only option for DRL...Dealer did mine too. (no scp)

    Canadian cars have Daytime running lights. Headlights come on, but nothing else. So it is possible.

    Are you sure it's just headlamps for Porsche DRL in Canada. When the DRL option is turned on in the states you get headlamps plus tail lamps, etc. - just no instrument panel lights. Can someone check? Thanks.

    Same here. All lights are on except instrument lights. I'd prefer headlights only. If it can be done on Canadian cars, why not American cars?

    I'd NOT have the lights on all the time. Just means your alternator and other components are wearing out faster. Would be fine if our cars were cheap to repair.

    Just flip lights on when you think you need to be seen more... .

    I may have my dealer shut off the daytime lights, but I would prefer the Canadian solution (if it's true), headlights only.

    Anybody know for sure if Canadian cars have headlights only daytime running lights. And, if so, how an American car can be programmed that way?

    We need TheOldMan to check his car and let us know if it's just headlamps on his Canadian 997.

    If you have the sports chrono package, you can turn on/off the DRL by yourself. I turned them on, but as mentioned above the side markers, etc also come on, and the main lighs come on. I remember when living In Canada, many cars had the high beams on at 80-90% intensity as the solution for DRL, a solution that I think I would prefer if available.

    I just did a walk around my car with the car running. I was totaly wrong. All the lights are on. Sorry about that.

    Thanks for that information. So DRL on Porsche 997 means all external lights on, instead of just headlamps as in most cars.

    My dealer turned mine on (I don't have sports chrono) and I may have them turned back off.
