For the past seven years of a 55-year study by DuPont, silver has led the world as the most popular vehicle paint color out there. After all, it's easy to clean and stays that way, doesn't show many flaws, and those combine to help resale values. But this year, car buyers are abandoning the many shades of gray for the extremes of the color scale--black and white. Here in North America, "white/white pearl, silver, and black are in a virtual tie for first, with white narrowly taking the top spot." White also took the top spot in Japan and has a staggering lead in Mexico (white reflects the sun, you know.) Europe, though, is partial to black, where the darkest of colors owns 25 percent of the market.
