Having fled NYC a few yrs back, still marvel re: the spectacular roads/weather/scenery CA offers, often within 30mins of one's office in more congested Silicon Valley/Beverly Hills....IMO, a simply stunning quality of life for a (workaholic) car nut...
For a 3 wk visit to CA, may want to investigate renting a 997S Cab in Beverly Hills (or even $0-down leasing a new 997S Cab for use during trip (clever NYC/London financial guys have played this game before
))....silly to drive great roads in a suboptimal car....

I did the trip between San Simeon and Monterey 2 weeks ago. I did the entire LA to SF trip on PCH last year. Thanks for bringing back such good memories.

The Sierra Mar has been closed for renovations; due to re-open at the end of July. The same great food, by Craig von Foerster, is available at the Rancho Sierra Mar building, located near the swimming pool.
