Turbo Tiptronic

For those of you who own a 997 Turbo with a Tiptronic box, any changes over the Tip of yesteryear? Is it better in any way than the crappy box that is in the standard cars? I have been offered a build slot for May on a Turbo Tip with a USD 12,000 discount and a good price for 997..... Wife would love a tip but I hated the tip in a 2003 996 I bought (after a 6 month wait). There is no way of test driving one here in Japan so your advice is very important!

If I go for it, a few nice options colour will be Basalt Black with Terracotta or Meteor with natural brown!

Ask RC, he has a Tip.

can't compalin about my tip. it's the same tip as i had in my carrera s. however, with the amount of torque the turbo produces its a far better match...you will not really miss the stick.

in sport mode the shifts are damn fast....far superior to the carrera...a matter of programming i suppose.

Thanks for the reply - glad you like it. The dealer said the same thing actually, since the torque is quite different the Turbo Tip is not too bad. BUT and this is the BIG BUT, if Porsche release the PDK I would rather wait and go for that. There is no way my wife will allow another manual car. She has been good but I made a promise that the next Porsche will be a pedal car.....

i wouldnt be holding my breath on the pdk...my bet first on the lexus like sedan nxt yr.

I like my tip TT and am glad I made the decision. Every once in a while, I miss the thrill of the 6 speed, but overall, I would not go back to a manual. One thing to consider, from my experience, the tip can not be driven in auto mode as it shifts WAY too soon. Imagine driving around town at 40 mph in 4 th gear, not much fun. fwiw, I also have a F car with F1 transmission, and the Tip shifts no where near as fast as the F car.

Regarding PDK, I for one would not consider this the first year it comes out. If you remember the first generation Tips, they were not good...

Spoke to another dealer today in Tokyo, word is out that the PDK is DEFINITELY coming out soon MY 09 for sure, and the tip Turbo's are sitting around - got offered another build slot today with a USD 15,000 discount (tip only)

I am excited about the PDK - for my wife - she loves to drive but doesn't want a car anymore. We live slap bang in the middle of Tokyo and she can walk or ride her nice push bike - she had a motorbike accident and doesn't ride that any more.
