I don't follow LMP2 very closely (but I'm obviously going to start now that there's a Porsche entry), but I don't think it's an extremely competitive class. I'd love to see it win its debut race, stimulate tougher competition and, as you said, spice up the class.

Let' hope LMP2 is only a "test"category and that they'll join the big names in LMP1 with some car specs changes.
I don't really understand this "shy" return to competition in LMP2...

Hi Cookie,
The August Panorama (PCA magazine) has some speculation about why Porsche is in LMP2 and not LMP1 starting on page 66. The gist of it is Porsche expects to be able to win in LMP2 AND make money selling these cars to independent teams. So LMP2 is is a "have your cake and eat it too" scenario. So why are they avoiding LMP1? Well, to encourage development of diesel powered LMP1 cars, the rules allow diesels to have larger air restrictors, and hence more horsepower. These cars (from Peugeot and Audi I believe) are expected to appear in 2007, and barring any reliability problems they are expected to dominate LMP1. I know that sounds bizarre, but the innate fuel efficiency of diesels combined with the horsepower advantage of the larger air restrictor is perceived as being too large to overcome for a reasonable investment.
I have no contacts at Porsche and only a passing interest in auto racing, so take this for what it's worth (very little

I don't like that everything Porsche does has to be profitable. Porsche is a top sports cars brand and should return to a top level competition.Why don't they play in GT1 with Aston, Ferrari, Chevrolet?Do they prefer to play with judd, MG, Peugeot in LMP2? That doesn't make sense to me.

This isn't the factory Porsche team. This is a car made for ALMS and Penske racing. When the full factory returns it will be with a top class car. I wouldn't be surprised if design is under way already.

Hey guys, what is the best way to beat the competion? How about a lower weight. Porsche is going into LMP2 to beat everyone. They may not acheive this the first year or maybe they will, but mark my word that they will be winning overall races in the near future with this car. We have already had LMP2 cars run faster times in the series. With Porsche HP from small displacement and their light weight with large braking, they will dominate.

What about the CGT? Porsche always said it was designed like a race car.Did they lie??????Are they afraid of Corvettes(cheaper in race LM version than the cgt in road version)huhuhuh
