only 300 miles to go on break in

Had the car about a month. Just less than 300 miles to go on the break in period. Thought I'd get a new model designater to match every's thoughts as I blow past them at redline (in the Taco Bell line )

Re: only 300 miles to go on break in

Nice, I love your model designation

Now if he was in the UK, I'd bet my house on that happening.

I bet you've already gone over 4,500 rpm.

I did, but had to have reduction surgery so I could get in the Porsche easier. Model designater is photoshoped of course. But we all know, there's many a 'hater' out there that thinks it as we drive by them. And, yes, I have to admit that I have wondered by the recommended RPM on several occasions. I kind of made a liner progression in max RPM as the miles got closer to 2000.

LOL. The joke's on you. People at Porsche are snickering since they know your car's been broken in for the last 1000 miles or so.

Just fire it up today and blow past that redline to your heart's content!

Re: only 300 miles to go on break in

I suspect that is true. Officially, I kept to the official recommendation, just as I always obey the posted speed limit Like all good citizens, I will have to find a track to explore the potential of this vehicle

Nothing wrong with that. My variation was to use 5200 as my almost-routine upper limit after the first 1000 miles. At 1500 I was at 6000 now and then. Would be great to have a beer with a few Porsche engineers and hear what they would say. "Everybody" suspects they would laugh and say "drive it like you stole it" after the first 200 miles.

Re: only 300 miles to go on break in

The UK manual doesn't give any rev limits.

It simply asks you not to treat it too rough! (In Porsches own words)

I am at 740 miles and am reving up at 6000 rpm. I decided to give it 1000 miles on the clock until I move upto 7000. Nothing fell off yet! If it does Ive got a warranty!

Re: only 300 miles to go on break in

I think this is the US Manual as I downloaded it from RenList.

    flap,

I'm still a laggard regarding the mileage. After 4 and 1/2 weeks of driving, I've got slightly less than 1,300 miles on it. But it seems to me that the car has "loosened" up noticeably; it just seems to run a easier (it could just be my perception). I admit to having hit 5,000 rpm about 5 times, but only for about 3-5 seconds at a time. I don't think I did any harm.

My salesman told me that Porsche bench tests each engine for 10 hours before installing it in the car, and he claimed that 500 miles was enough of a break-in. Still, I'd rather be safe than sorry over having to get an engine replaced, even under warranty.

Thus far, I have added 400 ml of oil (at about 690 miles), but I can't manage to find any of the Mobil 1 5w-40, which is what was installed at the factory. I added 0w-40. Hope this doesn't screw things up.

Gas mileage has increased from about 19 to a bit over 20 after I switched to Shell V-Power from Exxon premium.

Watch those Taco Bell lines for jealous patrons who just might "burrito" your Carrera!!!

    Jim

Re: only 300 miles to go on break in

I just passed a 1000 miles on mine and just went for it, what a feeling
