    Dilemma...

Looking for advise for following Problem....

We have a very good offer for a low milage 997 GT2 2009 model with a Techart Engine kit of 620 HP and clutch done  - at basically a third of it's original cost which was skyhigh... (no bodywork which I like very much) just a different spoiler.... - very good car history. (20k km)

I drove the car today and was literally blown away..... now I think my GT3RS is a bit slow...Smiley - although nothing in comparison in the sound-department - but boy do 800 NM mean business.....

The dilemma I am having is that the dealer has also a brand new 997 GT2RS with 600 km - with 30% off NP..... - I would pay more for the RS - but can I drive it as much as I want to without loosing much more ? Will it appreciate on the long run ? I know the pro's on the factory car vs tuning car - but I could drive a very fast car for relatively little money - but maybe the GT2RS holds it's value quite nicely despite some couple of 10k km on it ?

    Any thoughts ??? Smiley

    Re: Dilemma...

GT2RS every time .. OEM and will be easier to sell, and no warranty problems. this car will also scare you senseless !

modified cars have a much more limited market/audience

cost of modification is no guide and bears almost no relation to resale value

    Re: Dilemma...

I'd go for the RS as well. And should you later need more oompf, just call Andy from Sportec. ;-)

    Re: Dilemma...

I would also choose the RS, but of course it will depreciate and you must be willing to sell it for 50% of it's initial value ..... before the 991 GT2 comes out . As after that it could be even less . Maybe it will pick up again after 15-20 years . Just my 2cents .

Not many cars hold their value at the moment . Even the GT3 RS 4.0 is not keeping it's value, and that model is more special then the Gt2 RS

    Re: Dilemma...

The GT2 RS (500 made) is in the long run a very collectable 911 .  The standard GT2 will be at one point too but not sure about the modified/tuned ones. If I am not mistaken around 1200 997 GT2 were made so not many by modern Porsche production standards.

Hell of a problem to have, isn't it? I don't think I would pass up to chance to own a GT2RS. angel

I don't think I could pass that up either.

    Re: Dilemma...

FYI - the local OPC has a GT2RS with 650km on it and are asking $250K. heart

    Re: Dilemma...

That is about the range - but considering the LP it took quite some hit already - there is one with 200km still for 360k CHF.... - but that is my point. Will it fall below let's say 180k ? if it goes further I'd rather take something that has reached a very low bottom already n have fun for +100k less than a used GT2RS Smiley

    Re: Dilemma...

    GT2RS all the way.

    Re: Dilemma...

GT2 RS at -30%? Would do that immediately. Of course, the car still will depreciate, but it will (just like the GT3 4.0) 'the last of it's kind'. That in combination with the fact that it was limited to 500 pieces: GT2 RS all the way. Don't forget that on the second hand market most people avoid to buy Techart etc.

    Re: Dilemma...

Besides the merits of the RS, it is also a factory original. I'd never buy a modified ultra high performance car.

Techart = consumption, there won't be much left in 3-5 years (in terms of car and in terms of value - who would buy it then?)

GT2RS = a rare and very special car

Guess what I would recommend Smiley

    Re: Dilemma...

Thanks to all for the good advise - however, the 6 digit difference makes it rather difficult still.....

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

    Re: Dilemma...

What about buying the RS as a collector and keep it for the next 20 years ? The extra money spent would then be diluted over the years, and if you are lucky you could even get your money back .

    +1 on the GT2 RS

    Re: Dilemma...

Especially living in Switzerland, my vote goes to your current 3.8 RS rather than upgrading to a GT2. You can enjoy the sound of your current car as much as you like, while you can barely use the added speed of a GT2.

    +1 the 997.2 GT3RS should be a keeper.

If it is the gt2 rs from Elite garage with 600km i wouldnt even consider it. Elite garage is im many terms a no go. Get it from an official Porsche Zentrum.

    GT2 RS it is!

    Re: Dilemma...

So far everyone prefers the GT2RS over the slightly modified GT2. Just curious, anyone want to attempt a counter arguement

    Smiley

I think the counter argument would be about cost/outlay from a driving aspect there is not that much difference between GT2 and GT2RS with the modfied GT2 likely faster with higher torque ~800NM from 3000rpm and similar top end power. The weight differences will be little particularly if as you say the RS is highly specced.

So for half the price (is that about right ?) you get a similar drive and still a very rare car as said 997 GT2 to GT2RS  is near 2 to 1.

The only insurmountable counter arguments and ones which made me cancel my RS order are that the RS can not have rear seat belts fitted (no fixing points/welding) or roof bars cannot be used - if you want to stick kids in the back or carry surf stuff then the RS is a no no
