The rumor of a "facelifted" GT3 street version is circulating around for quite a while now. A few months ago, I heard that german dealers are taking pre-orders from "seriously interested" customers. A short while ago I heard however that the project might be abandoned to keep GT2 sales in the US up. Why ? Because Porsche has to offer a "new" GT3 also for the US market. As soon as we get any updates on this issue, we will post it.

Porsche promised in public to deliver ALL their models to the US market. This is now official Porsche policy. This fact actually creates some serious "problems" for other markets: whenever I enquire about more power or special suspension setups, I get the same answer: "we can't because of manufacturer liability in the US". 
And it seems that Porsche doesn't want to offend US customers anymore by offering different models to other markets.

i heard that the GT2's inadequate price is due to the limited production and the fact that it is very costly to bring a model on the US market -- so I guess the new GT3, if it's coming, will get a higher price tag.
on the other hand i think it's only fair to match the highest safety and product liability regulations. what about BMW? the SMG "race start" program is NOT available in the US specification... and why? i guess because the clutch is seriously damaged! so they offer us europeans a feature which damages the car just to get good 0-60mph times.

Not to forget the 2 year only warranty over here in Germany and many parts of the world. US customers are "warranty duration spoiled". 
I also remember the time when Mercedes offered a 3 year warranty to swiss customers but only one year to german customers. I know this is about strategy and markets but to me it still sounds a little bit unfair. I also don't understand why Porsche didn't raise warranty from two years to three years in Germany. They have now the same warranty duration as Skoda, Fiat and even Lada.

Actually, the SMG "Launch Control" is available on US spec cars but engages the clutch at 1800 rpm rather than ?? 3000 rpm.
On the topic of GT3, I would buy one here in the US. At least from what I read it may strike the best handling balance of the 996 series.
