Again no time for 0-300 kph.

Re: 997.2 Turbo PDK test by Auto

Hmm... Judging by excellent 0-1000m in 20"26 and 260,7km/h exit speed this Guards Red example should be able to do 0-300km/h in less then 40s for sure. There is just one gear change left when car reaches 260,7km/h and  that is from fifith to sixth at 263,2km/h... So, if we assume that despite very fast PDK gearchange car will not need more then 19s max. till 300km/h.

BTW, little bird told me that ALL current 997 Turbo PDK and Turbo S models are for sure faster then 40s for 0-300km/h.

Re: 997.2 Turbo PDK test by Auto

what can we expect for Turbo S and facelifted 997.2 GT2? Porsche is n°1 ;)

Re: 997.2 Turbo PDK test by Auto

Have tracked the last weeks all the dicussions about the Turbo MK2, the unknown acceleration 0-300 kp/h, the overheating problems possibly , a.s.o.

After all I decided to order a Turbo S even in spite of the above (unknown) figures.
Today I signed the contract and I feel very happy. Scheduled delivery ist the end of Jun as I chose a colour to sample and deviated stitching.

Can't await it and I thing the next 3 months will be very hard for me...Smiley

    Congrats Conny, great decision.

I thought you already made your order long before. May I ask which colour did you choose?

Re: 997.2 Turbo PDK test by Auto

    KresoF1,

    faster than 40s  - agree

but not for too much - 38-39 secs for 0-300

interesting to see how much faster Turbo S will be compared to Turbo

BTW - CarGraphic introduced PK 1 (550ps) and PK 2 (575 ps) for 997.2 Turbo...

    0-200km/h in 10,6s...

Either this test is not reliable, or Autozeitung wasn´t that off with their 10,4s time. Car and Driver also has similar results.

Re: 997.2 Turbo PDK test by Auto

Has the 997.2 Turbo been timed at the Ring? It would be interesting to see the respective times of PDK and manual. However, since HvS is not familiar with PDK it may not be a valid comparison.

Boy Conny, you sure don't mess around, do you? That's very quick. Congrats, and in order for me to share the excitement: Are you getting PDK or not? What color?
Either way, when in your car, the world will be standing still for you. Smiley

Nick, rumored N'ring time for 997.2 Turbo PDK is a full 10 seconds faster than 997.1 Turbo. Of this, for fun, I would guess 6 seconds from PDK, 2 seconds from stiffer spring, 2 seconds from more horsepower (which I think is more than just 20 hp -- PAG might be underrating 997.2 power). Just think what this car will do if PAG decides to give it a proper track suspension and cup tires. As is, it is still clearly and by far the most potent daily driver in the world.
Go get a test drive when you have a chance. I wasn't kidding when I said the jaded  "American" tester was in awe. But be careful, no car will feel the same afterwards.

Where is the proof ? "Little birds" said the Carrera GT did 0-300 in 27s when it in reality to 34s.... 997GT2 supposedly took 33s according to little bird but in reality takes over 36s....

The car tested by Car & Driver also had a rapid 0-160mph (258kph) ...... Unless there was something very wrong with the car tested by Sport Auto at 200-300 in 31.1s  then there is no new information regarding what happens after 260kph !!

BTW.... Conny congrats on the ttS purchase, it's going to be awesome Smiley

You're welcome. If you don't have a Turbo yet, 997.2 is a no brainer purchase since next gen Turbo is so far off, but in my case, no, because:

    1. I bought (not leased) my Turbo & the upgrade cost of 50k doesn't even come remotely close to covering the improvement. In addition, if you've read these pages, you know merits of  old Mezger versus newer DFI engine are hotly contested Smiley (fun and educational, really). (Personally, all things considered, I do think 997.2 is a much better car unless you want to mod the ECU.)

    2. I stil cannot make up my mind about PDK and don't want to give up my manual car. I think eventually I will have to buy a PDK 991 to add on to my Turbo, and not replace it.
The overwhelming advantage of PDK is from a standing start and at the lower gears, and at the track. Otherwise, by third gear, PDK and manual don't feel much different from each other IMO.

    3. I think 991, being wider and lower (???) with longer wheel base, is going to make 997 look & feel boxy and obsolete. So Iam thinking of 991 GT3  with PDK to add to my Turbo, maybe in 4 years. I think PDK is not only synergistic to a Turbo engine, but also helps to alleviate the anemic and disappointing feel of GT3's non-turbo flat 6 in the low end as well.

    Hi guys,

    many thanks for your congrats.
From now on I count the days, but better I do it with the month

    @ Rossi
The colour ist darkolivmetalic, with black leather and yellow seatbelts and stitching.

    @ can
as Rossi wrote the S is only with the PDK.
I decided for the Turbo S not as fast as it seems.
I carefully considered whether I should wait for the upcoming 991.
Due to my very valuable Porsche source I know that the 991 will not presented before 2012 as a MJ 2013, so that you perhaps can order it
in the autumn of 2012. But no clue then when the new Turbo will be available. Given the fact that I'm not even getting any younger, I have shot it..

Many congrats on the turbo S SmileySmileySmiley

I think you made an excellent choice - although this info on the  launch of the 991 is most likely incorrect. Sorry to tell - but this cannot be correct. Anyhow, if the 991 is launched in fall 2011 the turbo will not be available before early 2013. This gives you about 3 years with the turbo S. Perfect timing if you ask me.  After 3 years you usually want to get an update anyhow.

Re: 997.2 Turbo PDK test by Auto

    Thank you so much.
And of course you're right. Even if the 991 would have presented in 2011, there remain approx. 3 years left in the Turbo S.

    Conny,

Your reasons make perfect sense to me; and, as I count the gray hair appearing on my head, the one highlighted above the most powerful indeed :-). Believe me if I had the $, I would have pulled the trigger in heart beat.

Congrats on owning the best Turbo ever made and being first on these forums with the S. Smiley I am GREEN, with envy.

The info your source gave you does not go with porsche's previous production time lines. Porsche produced the S model only for one year for the 996TTS starting in late 2004 as a 2005 model, there were no 2006 cars. 6 months after the launch of the S, porsche launched the 997 line and I dont think this time they are going to wait 2 years before doing that.

The 997 line was launched in july of 2004 as a 2005 model and based on porsche's historical time line of a 6-year production per model, the 2010 model year should be the last for the 997. This means a new model (991) to be launched later in 2010 as a 2011 model, followed 2 years later by the new TT which will be a summer 2012 launch as a 2013 model if u compare to the 997TT time line.

So the new TT should be able to be ordered in march/april 2012, just 2 years from now not 3.

I ordered my 2007 TT in march 2006, it got built in April 2006 and was delivered in July 2006 just 2 years after the 997 model was launched, but with Porsche who knows, the historical time line could be of no significance at all and if your source is right this means no new turbo till 2014 which doesnt make any sense.

And like Can, I will not upgrade now and would rather wait for the 991TT hopefully in a couple of years and so far I am staying with manual. I have a 430 F1 now along with the manual TT and I still like to row the gears better than flick the paddles. I just wish the TT sounded like the 430, it would have been the perfect car.

Logically, it will be announced spring 2011 with a few pictures and main details, 997.2 production will stop around April-May 2011, 991 pre-production June -July 2011 and customer cars after factory holidays in autumn 2011.
