    I don't expect McLaren to overestimate performance. They are a very engineering led organisation to play with figures.

    The problem I'd expect is reliability for real users. Too many unique, new and untested vital components on this car. Unless of course like most cars of its type the new McLaren will spend the biggest part of  its life in a garage and when used it will be a 6/10 of its potential.

     

    We are talking about the McLaren of the Spygate and Lieagate fame, my dear friend. Smiley

    Those incidents were down to individuals. Coughlan and wife and ex- Ferrari Stepney in spygate and Hamilton in liargate. I believe McLaren as an organisation are not crooked.

     

     And I also believe in Santa.

    Those individuals are nothing but scapegoats. They wont be able to pull such a thing without the knowledge and the support of top management.

    Reginos is right.  Besides it all started with a Ferrari individual (Nigel Stepney) who offered the info to the persons he personnaly knew working for Mclaren at the time, as retaliation for not being offered the promotions he was hoping for by the Scuderia Ferrari Managment.  Besides the sanctions were more political than anything else (Max Mosley against Ron Dennis).  Max Mosley wanted to use this case to force Ron Dennis to stand down, which he succeded to.  It has been widely commented by the people inside the F1 business that flow of information among teams happen all the time.  This case might be a bit extrem but nothing genuinely shocking and out of ordinary, again considering the usual F1 practices.

    Mclaren factory told me recently that the performance claims above should be easily repeatable by the press. They factory test drivers did not spend too much time and effort recording those figures so they were insisting that they are not the best possible performance figures and certainly no "optimization" has taken place. Cant wait for independent test and my own test drive in less than 2 weeks!
