    Sports Exhaust worth waiting??

Today my dealer called me I could have my Cab without PSE made in March beginning of April. Because I have ordered PSE it will be around May with maybe 4 to 5 weeks delay.

    What do you think?

Nobody heard the new 997 PSE until now. Will there be a big difference? It it worth waiting or shall I save the money and go for the standard?

    Re: Sports Exhaust worth waiting??

who needs pse ? the car sound good as it is. everybody knows 911 are fast cars so there is no need to show off with an altered or louder exhaust.

i had a 360 modena spider as second car to my 997 s. i kept it for 10 days then sold it. its just too flashy in a footballer sense of way.

keep the 997 to standard spec its a sleeper its smooth its slick its pure understatement.

    Re: Sports Exhaust worth waiting??

It's not to show off. I just to enjoy the sound. The more the better.

But I'm not sure. Maybe you get used to it and switch it permanently off after a while. And in a Cab you hear the sound louder anyway.

    Re: Sports Exhaust worth waiting??

In my opinion PSE is vital for the car, as you said its for enjoy sound..
When we ordered the 997S, (first production line), PSE wasn't even available, so we had to forget about it ...

I'll go for the 997S+PSE without thinking twice....look carlos , he ordered his 997S with PSE a while ago, and (I think) he'll finally have it in about 1.5months ...its worth the wait???YES (in my opinion, of course)

    No

You can have it retro fitted anyway. Just convince the dealer to pay for the labor and you will pay for the parts. That way you get your car on time, and you get PSE, he gets a sale earlier and he makes money of parts.

As no one has heard PSE yet, it might also be worth waiting to see if it's as good ( or better) than PSE on the 996

Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

You sure about all that extra sound? Consider your neighbors always knowing when you are coming and going always "speeding" in the neighborhood.

I'd like the car to be really quiet on the outside so nobody hears it and thinks I'm driving like an [censored]; got forbid there should be an accident with all the witnesses telling cops the engine was "roaring."

Even if you're going 30 mph people will think it's 50!

That's what the on/off switch is for

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

The exhaust sounds fantastic as it is. Especially on start up in my underground carpark!

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

I would go stock then add it later. I added it (+ electronics) to my 996 for the same cost as it would have been as an original option. However, from what I hear, the 997 exhaust is much better sounding than the 996.

Also, I hate the sound of the sport exhaust on my 996 when it is muted ( sometimes necessary in garages or at night) . It sounds even weaker than a stock 996 exhaust.

I hope this is not the case with the 997S. It sounds great already. I might just wait until I can testdrive a 997S with PSE before I consider the retrofit.

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

"hate" was probably too strong a word. What I mean is when the exhaust is deactivated via the switch you basically hear no exhaust note at all & just the whine of the engine. Whereas the stock exhaust at least had some pleasurabel sound to it.

Therefore, if the 997 exhaust sound good stock I would defintely think twice about adding a sport exhaust because when you mute it, it may not go back to the stock sound.

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

WAIT FOR IT AS A RETROFIT thas my opinion it ll be exactly the same plus you ll have the possibility to hear in on another car and know what you are paying for.

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

    Has anyone considered aftermarket exhaust?

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

my dealer just told me they are now starting to take orders for MY06 and even for those cars, the computer still doesn't let them get PSE

    Re: Sports Exhaust worth waiting??

The issue with retrofit is that it costs about 800 Euro more. And my dealer wouldn't pay a cent to it.

And I don't like the idea stripping down my almost new car and changing some things afterwards. I like having my car a pure Porsche original.

    I think I will wait.

I don't blame you. I would have done the same. My 997S was one I had originally ordered but passed on because they couldn't get PSE on it. When I found out this car was eventually built and sitting at the dock in San Diego, waiting for inspection, I changed my mind and took it. I will tell you that the stock exhaust note on the 997S is fantastic and when you bury the throttle, it screams. Hard to improve on that.

I originally wanted PSE and waited several months for my dealer to include with order, eventually like many others, I was left with no choice but to order the car without.
Now that I have the car, I'm really not sure if I want PSE, I've read on this board that it will be speed sensitive and will also be linked to the sport button if you have chrono, so the only way to use PSE on my car will be with sport activated, certainly not the way I'd like PSE to work.
The stock sound on the 'S' is fine with a dramatic increase in sound higher up the revs. PSE will have to sound amazing to convince me now.
My dealer has offered that I pay cost price for the labour to retro fit.

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

    Hi,

I have heart the PSE at Zuffenhausen, Exclusive dpt.
I found it really great even when the PSE is off...
And... when it is on, it seems to be a cup sound, great when driving oustide of the town, without disturbing anybody.

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

    Cool, thanks Pitou

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

Well, don't know if it's 100% true of course, but in Paris last weekend and had lunch with my dealer.
He told me he delivered a Atals grey 997 with Sport exhaust two weeks ago.
Told me that button to control exhaust is same as sport chrono.
Smaller pipes outlet on the inside, and distinct pipes (unlike the standard exhaust).
I don't think he was BS-ing me because he is definitely not a techy
And he said it sounds fantastic, much better than the 996 PSE, as Pitou said, he compared it to the cup car above 3000 rpm and very bassy and raspy below.

Re: Why ask for trouble? Witnesses have imaginations.

Sounds true becuase the sport exhaust tips are as he describes them, two differnt diameter tips with the medial one being smaller, and the sport chrono deal has also been reported.

Interesting that both people who have heard it both refer to the cup car to define the sound, so sounds like it will sound even sportier than the 996-PSE (which is already greta) at least... can't wait!
