Feedback on my 997s order please.

Tooner, has been bugging me to post my order here to get some feedback. Here it is.

    997s Guards Red
    standard leather seats in black
    power seat
    heated front seats
    navi
    bose
    sport shifter
    sport steering wheel
    park assist
    sport chrono

What you guys think? Coming in October.

    Then after it arrives:
Sport exhaust - they said I cant add this anymore to the order.
    lowering springs
    evom intake
    GIAC - MAYBE

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

I use my built-in-by-God park assist, but otherwise, looks great. We've been tossing opinions on order specs all day, see the thread below started by FSU-997S for more pros and cons on options. If you truly want my OPINION, which everybody know's I'm not shy with:

Toss the navigation, the sport shifter (less travel, but more effort) and the park-assist, and put that money toward full-leather with/and/or sport-adaptive seats.

The sport shift can be retro'd with a Porsche or aftermarket unit at any time in the future, if you don't fall in love with the stock one (you really oughta try both, and maybe you have)

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

I'm not big on the navi either but I hate the thought of having that BIG screen & not being able to really use it.

I am debating on the sport adaptive seats. As for full leather, I don't like the stitchings on the dash & doors.

    Thanks for the input.

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

Hey biggy, I didn't get the full leather either.. at first I thought I had wanted it, but have really fallen in love with the standard dash.. very clean looking, and does not look cheap by any means.. as for the seats, mine are standard also. I have driven an S with adaptives, and yes they are nice, you do feel like you are 'locked in', however I drive my car every day, and the standards have been perfectly fine for me. Even when I'm up in the hills, I still feel bolstered down at high speeds, so IMO, unless you are gonna be tracking alot, or doing some serious sport driving, you could do without them.. although they are very popular on this board.. Sounds like your getting PSE, which is my favorite option. Enjoy it

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

    Sounds really nice as is.
But if you want to get picky I agree with bossman. But if you don't like the full leather then I wouldn't try to talk you into it. I would drop the park assist though.

The nav is great. I use it more as an accesable map then anything. It's really nice to be able to zoom in and out while driving which you can't do with a paper map to see if the routes I normally travel are the best ones. I've also used it a few times in heavy traffic to look for an alternative route when I've been in places where I don't know the area. Another time I was deverted off a highway because of flooding. If I didn't have the nav map to pull up and look for another highway it would have been a real pain especially since there was so much traffic because nobody knew what to do. Nothing worse then sitting in traffic AND then realizing you're going the wrong way.

The adaptive sport seats are a really nice option. Especially like the lumbar adjustment which you don't get on other seats. They also look amazing with the special seat back and bolsters.

Is that the thicker wheel you ordered ? Good choice.

I'd consider the crests in the headrests too. Really nice touch.

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

They wouldn't let me add the PSE anymore. I was under the impression that you can change anything until actual build date. Mine is 9/12/05. For whatever reason they said it has to be dealer installed.

    Thanks for the input.

    **********
Most of the Porsches that I've driven (all friends & family) had the "regular" seats. I found them to be ok or good. Never really had a complaint.

The first time I drove one with adaptive sport seats was Tooner's car. It is really AWESOME.

I did get the thicker sport steering wheel.

Dealer said that I can do the crest once it arrives.

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

"Dealer said that I can do the crest once it arrives." seats?

really! thats one that I wanted but was too late.

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

Nav is fun, get it. You drive around and see that there're roads all around you that you wouldn't know about unless you had a map tattooed to the inside of your eyelids. I thought I'd hate it but changed my mind about it.

Parking assist ONLY if you do alot of parallel parking in city.

Get the adaptive sport seats, if you're over 40, nothing beats being absolutely comfortable.

I read review somewhere that said the stock 997/S shifter is an absolute dream. Nothing like 996. So you may be going overboard by getting the sport shifter.

Thick wheels remind me of NASCAR, even if F1 have them they still look like you have to wrestle with big hands and stubby fingers to steer the car somewhere.

    Oh, BTW: CONGRATULATIONS!

You get the lumbar support even on the standard seats if you order the Power Seat Package. Here is Porsche's description from their "build your own" website:

"Power Seat Package with driver memory and full electrical adjustment. Includes lumbar adjustment on driver side."

I agree with you on the Nav system. It is another one of those items that once you have had it you can't imagine owing a car without it. I have used mine and the one in my wife's car many times. It can be a great help if you are in unfamiliar areas. Here in Southern California you would have to have 3 or 4 map books just to cover everything within 100 miles.

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

with a black interior black dials look far nicer than the standard dials imho. congrats.

Re: Feedback on my 997s order please.

Make sure they install the PSE at no cost to you.
