    Re: GT3 Gen 2 - Depreciation

eeeek - only 4500 miles from pure road use!  That is a further nasty running cost and one that I will have to share your pain with as my V12V has the same tyres (Pirelli P Zero Corsa System)

Anyway, try these guys for tyres as they seem to be very cheap.

    Re: GT3 Gen 2 - Depreciation

The tyres on mine are the Mich Pilot Sport Cups. I have heard that the Pirelli Corsa are a better road tyre with better wear and wet grip. I might go to those next....

    Thanks for the link...

    Re: GT3 Gen 2 - Depreciation

    Cheers Chris,

I will follow up on the paintshield and the insurance.  Did think about doing the factory collect after seeing your thread but worried about the car getting covered in stone chips before I can get the shield on by the time I get home, or hitting bad weather at that time of year.

How long is the build process, i.e. is the car built in one day?  and then how long until it gets to the dealer in the UK? It's being built in October so whats the earliest my dealer should have an exact build date?

It's going to be a long 8 weeks or so!  I waited 9 months for one of my cars before I don't know how I did it!

Talk to Tom at PaintShield, i had it arranged with him to fly a guy out to the factory collection centre and put the film on in the collection bay... The price was more or less the same as getting it fitted in the UK. Don't be tempted to use the OPC in Stuttgart to put the film on as they WILL cut the film on the car, also you will end up picking the car up from them and not the factory.  The factory collection is well worth it, and If required i am sure i still have a contact mail address for a factory collection guy if you want to arrange the film fitting.

From memory it is about a 4 day build process (Melting down the biscuit tins until rolling off the production line). Once the car is built it is about two weeks until it hits your dealer. I would say you will get a build date in the next couple of weeks if it is an October slot. If you elect for a factory collection you will not be able to arrange the collection dates until the car enters production status on the internal systems (If you push your OPC, Porsche UK can arrange collection dates with the factory before the car enters this state).

I know the pain of waiting. I put an LOI in for my car in June 2008, paid my  deposit in Feb 2009, sold my Gen2 Carrera S in March 2010, and had to wait until Mid June 2010 for my collection !!!

Did you get a customer cancelled build slot ?

    Re: GT3 Gen 2 - Depreciation

Hi Chris, Sounds good will do some thinking about the factory collect. I think the price is bit of a rip off seeing as you are saving them the delivery cost, but I'm sure it's a good trip a and the car will be run in by the time you get home. Interesting that Tom can send someone out, that sounds a great idea. How many miles did you do and how did you cross the channel, ferry or the tunnel?

    Re: GT3 Gen 2 - Depreciation

Sorry forgot, yes cancelled slot. I had originally put an order in for this time last year but a couple of the options weren't available (lift and mounts) and I ended up getting cold feet and cancelling. Wish I'd just out it back a couple of months, could have had the car 9 months by now!

The trip is expensive but included all of the following for two people:-

Flight to Stuttgart, Taxi transfer to Stuttgart Hotel (includes evening meal and breakfast). Taxi to the factory, handover, tour, lunch, and museum access. The trip also includes a business class tunnel trip home (This gives you priority boarding on the next available train, basically first on first off, and a free lunch to take onboard)

In the customer collection area, they had a couple of the apprentices from the leather shop showing how steering wheels were stitched together. They also made me a personal key ring (Piece of leather pressed with crest logo and stitched with a thread of your colour choice).

I would do this trip again if i bought another new car, as it makes the car more special than picking up at the dealer. I am also thinking of driving back out next year (possibly on the back of one of my European track days) to do the factory tour again as it was that interesting.

If you look at my factory collection thread you can see a detailed picture by picture view of my trip. I did just over 700 miles from memory.
