    2006 Carrera GT

Thinking of buying a used CGT. I have check with UK and USA dealers and have a few questions for you experts:

    1) When was the production end for CGT? May 2006?
    2) An different between 2006 and earlier years? One dealer trying to sell me a 2006 and claiming that it's a new clutch version. I don't think so. But can any one confirm?

    Thanks for the help.

    Re: 2006 Carrera GT

The last built CGT (# 1,270) left the factory May, 6th 2006.
Slightly more than 50% of the total production number has been exported to the US.
I've no clue about any changes/improvements from MY to MY though.
I'm sure those (few) Rennteamers who own a CGT will chime in soon. Good luck with the search

    Re: 2006 Carrera GT

A UK dealer offers me a MY 2006 unregistered and with factory warranty hasn't started. The price of is say US$500K. In the US, I found used one (MY 2004-2005) with low milege (1000-3000 mls) to be around $375-400K. I am thinking of going for a US car which is substantially lower price. Should I be concerned with life of the warranty and the 2005 vs 2006 clutch version. Is there such a difference? Any CGT MY 2004-2005 out there can answer this.

If you tell us where the car will be used I can offer some advice on US v UK cars...
The information I have which was asked on my behalf to some Porsche guys involved in the development of the CGT is that the clutch was not changed throughout production - I had read in a few places that it had and had somehow been made easier in later models but apparently not.
I am the second owner of a US'04 and the clutch is pretty horrid in stop start traffic and hill starts, but you do get used to it.
Obviously warranty is nice and again how much you have will depend on where you buy it from/reside. The cars do seem pretty bullet proof with the first oil change service not due 'til 15K miles.

    Re: 2006 Carrera GT

I drive a 05 CGT and I have no problems with the clutch (maybe except on a steep incline...). In fact, I didn't stall the car well after a month after the first time. I guess I was prepared mentally about the nature of the clutch before hand.

    Re: 2006 Carrera GT

Thank for the info. I am living in Phuket, Thailand. There are two CGT in Thailand as far as I know. One Porsche service dealer in Bangkok.

I have been reading some more on the subject and here what Evo's Paul Bailey has to say on his longterm update of CGT:

"Anyway, some fantastic opportunities arose from the spectacular French trip. The first was the chance to drive another Carrera GT, in this instance one owned by Arash Farboud. Arash's car was built later than mine and benefits from an improved clutch which is measurably easier to use. This also results in the gearbox being even slicker in his car. But other than that the two cars seemed identical." EVO Longterm Update CGT

The more research I have done on the past posts on Rennteam, I am not too concern about MY 2006 vs. earlier MYs. I will go for the cheaper route i.e. US car with low miles and save more than $100K. I think all the cars (MY 2006 or before) are technically the same. Porsche was trying to make race car acceptable to the consumers thus there is a change in MY 2006. In term of "bullet proof" engineering of the clutch, I'm comfortable. Any thoughts?

    Re: 2006 Carrera GT

Are you going to drive the CGT in Phuket? Wow, I'd rather have an SUV there!

    Re: 2006 Carrera GT

The information I have about the clutch is that they changed the friction material very early on in production after journalists and early testers all had problems.

My car is an '04 and the first owner had a new clutch so definately will have the new friction material. It is possible but unlikely that Bailey's car has the original material ?
    Lots of rumour/heresay out there....
BTW the clutch is far from "bullet proof" if you slip it or do not used the approved start method you will have to find the requisite 13K Euro !

    Re: 2006 Carrera GT

No SUV. Too heavy too high.
