    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

The GT3 engine failures are typically less dramatic.  Wear of the valvetrain (camshafts and finger followers) results in a fault in the computer that requires a shut-down.  This sort of failure has no "bang".  Your failure seems to be of a different more "interesting" variety.  You should PM the details to Macca - he is keeping a database of the failures...

    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

Ok, the car is back on home turf and in the hands of my usual mechanics. So far they have just taken a first look at it and also used some kind of fiberoptic camera. They showed me a "beautiful" picture of a big hole in the engine block.....laugh Totally blown ! 💥💥💥

No Moore will be done for a couple of weeks now. Stockholm was hit by the worst November snow fall in 111 years this Wednesday so the mechanics are full booked with tire shift the coming weeks 🌨❄️🌨❄️

    To be continued......

Politically speaking: The 991.1 (GT3) is from Obama's era aka The Democryptic Party.

That big hole is some sort of an abortion sign, which was ok'ed by Obamacare angry

Now that Trump has been elected as the next president, we expect Porsche to switch back to its safe and conservative redline at 6,750 rpm with or without turbo.

    We'll make 911 Great Again!

    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

So am I to conclude the 991.1 GT3 has an inherently flawed engine design, or is this just random? I feel like people have been talking about these engines being bad ever since the massive recall.

Glad there was no fire.  A guy on Rennlist had a failure on the track and it left a large trail of burning oil and burned the back of his GT3 pretty badly too.

    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

Wasn't con-rod failure the basis of the original stop sale and the replacement of over 700 2014 engines? Does the persistence of this catastrophic event suggest that the original problem has not be solved? Or is this a different failure with a similar result? It will be interesting to learn the specific changes in the 991.2 GT3 that fully address these ongoing and serious engine problems.

    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

I think this mode of failure (while catastrophic) has been rather rare.  I only heard of a small number since the recall.  The new 991.2 GT3 Cup motor is supposed to have a 100 hour life in racing (twice as long as 991.1 GT3 Cup race cars).  Hopefully there is some truth to the improvement in longevity (though doubling the life of some of the 991.1 GT3 road cars would still come up very short of acceptable).

    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

Yep, no problems at all. Porsche has handled this perfect so far. Only trouble right now is that the new engine was delivered last night, but something went wrong when unloading it. So this morning, when the mecanics came in, they found my new engine up side down ! angel So now that one is on its way back and Porsche will deliver a new new engine😂😎 But this is NOTHING to blame Porsche for, but rather the drunk (???) lorry driver...

Only thing I now need to do is to make sure to have sufficient insurance. If the new engine, god forbid, blows, it will be on me, since you don't get another two years on the new engine.....

But thanks to Porsche taking good care of me and my problems, I will be on track as usual in April smileykiss

    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

Doesn't this suggest that the rev limiter should be 8kRPM (or lower)?

In many cases we do not know the car's usage history before the failure. Many people stress their engines in various ways, including pushing them while cold. That behavior may not result into an immediate failure but could pave the way to one when later pushed to high revs.

    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

Mine has never been pushed cold and run in to the extreme (3000km) and according to every aspect in running in a engine before hitting the track.

And still.....yes But I DO track a lot...... slightly over 20000km, then bang!heart

    Re: GT3 engine issues again?

And no, this was not a recall. Mine was the first version of the adjusted  engine
