    The Z07 Corvette

    Automobile Magazine

    Quotes from the magazine:

"Tom Wallace has a 650 hp trick up his sleeve. A new super Corvette will build on Z06's 7.0 liter LS7 V8 that was developed in sync with the Corvette C6.R LeMans racer."

"Supercharged to bump output by 145 hp."
"Huge hood vent aimed at killing front end lift."
"Chevy will undercut competition by pricing the Z07 at about $100,000.

"We think they'll go with Z07 or maybe Z06 R."

    Re: The Z07 Corvette

I guess they couldn't hire a good designer for $100,000...

Seriously, kudos to the americans for building it, they are filling a nice niche (performance for a cheap price).

    Re: The Z07 Corvette

    Thanks for the scan Ron.

Wait for the DOHC LS-9 engine.

It makes the same hp but without a supercharger.

I think it looks cool, but they're raising the price 50% just because they added 29% more power. I think one would be better off buying an aftermarket supercharger for a small fraction of that price (assuming 505hp isn't enough). Personally, I'd pay a bit more for better steering, brake feel, and handling at the limit, but I think the Z06 has plenty of grunt already.

That is like saying by porting the heads and adding a cam to a standard C6, you have a Z06. Not true...

Power is only part of the equation. You should see things like an all CF body, and Carbon brakes, less overall weight, bigger track ready brakes, stiffer chassis, new suspension, more technology, world class interior, more exotic look.

I think the car will do everything the Z06 does, but even better. I wonder if they can make this car aviod the guzzler tax.

    Re: The Z07 Corvette

I think the problem with that picture is it is more of an artist's rendition of what it MIGHT look like. On the C6R, the engine had to be pushed back about 6 inches because of that hood scoop so some major retooling is going to have to be done for them to fit the engine + supercharger in there.

    Re: The Z07 Corvette

The Corvette SS or Stingray (Z07 is unlikely) will have a supercharged 6.2l LS9 engine. They are right about the actual power though..

You don't really get 105hp from a cam and porting do you? Anyways, I see your point. If they make wholesale improvements to the car beyond power, then it sounds reasonable (though I've never been a fan of SC motors)...

105 HP from Cam and Porting...at the very least! Why do you think many european kit cars use the Corvette motor. This is the beauty of pushrod motors. I have an 01 Z06 track car that had the originally LS6 rated at 385 crank hp. This was before they released the 405hp version. I put on an exhuast, cold air intake, 605 lift cam, new valve train, and got 422 rear wheel HP. With a 15-20% drive train loss that puts me at about 500 crank. Torque is also respectable at 387 RW or 455 crank. This was WITHOUT ported heads. Ported heads would have put me at 450RWHP or 540 crank. But with my car already at 2950lbs, I decided this was plenty of power. All this for about $2500.

I don't like the SC option for the Z07, as this will surely cause overheating issues during long track sessions. But this is the easier, cheaper way to make the power and meet emissions and most people will never see the track.

    Re: The Z07 Corvette

I also don't know if anyone noticed that this is an edited picture of Z06 promotional material right before its release.

    Re: The Z07 Corvette

Jersey was that dyno run on stock headers?

    You mentioned exhaust.

What about that? Headers with bigger collectors and main pipes?

The C5 Z06 had the light weight titanium mufflers - did you ditch those for others?

    Re: The Z07 Corvette

I like the styling actually, how it is more like the C6-R. But I dont think they should put a supercharged engine in it. Cheap way to make power.

    Re: The Z07 Corvette

Corvette needs to take it up. For 80k of the Z06- you expect GREAT features-- not just a muscle car that can do some track stuff. If that were the case than people would buy lancer EVO and would put a V8 in it.

for 80k corvette needs to consider CHANGING the styling of the car significantly to differentiate it from just the regular vettes... and kicking up the interior.

They have come a long way though (lets not say they haven't). But now that they have come to what I can consider a NORMAL level of car building..... TAKE it to the next step.

No, that is running 1 3/4" Kooks long tube stainless steel headers, through dual 3" collectors, into an X pipe, and exiting out of a set of Borla Stingers. The Borla's although not titanium weight about the same as they basically have no mufflers.

The stock car uses a manifold design like most cars with 2.5" exhaust.
