    991 Cabriolet and 991 Carrera 4 - Time Table

According to the latest rumors, the 991 Carrera and Carrera S Cabriolet models will be available starting spring (May or June) 2012.

The 991 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models should be available starting autumn (October or November) 2012.

These are the rumored release dates for Germany, they could vary depending on the region you live in.

Sorry, nothing solid on the 991 GT3 yet, just vague rumors. All I know is that it is coming (it has the "green" light for development  but I guess this is no surprise for anyone).

Another rumor: The new 991 Turbo will hit 0-100 kph in 3.0 seconds flat (PDK, Sport Chrono Plus). I suppose this means that a possible Turbo S would hit 0-100 kph in 2.x seconds, which would be absolutely stunning.

Re: 991 Cabriolet and 991 Carrera 4 - Time Table

Also some not so good news for those, who love a good exhaust sound: To achieve an amazing exhaust sound but at the same time respecting sound emission restrictions in certain markets, Porsche used a trick on the 991. They actually make the 991 sound louder to the inside through a special duct system which leads from the engine bay to the interior. It is actually a little bit more complicated than how I described it but fact is: While the new PSE will sound amazing, it will sound amazing to the passengers only, not to the outside world. Kind of weird, I'm not sure this is what I have hoped for.

Ford Mustang and a couple other sporty cars have ducted in engine sound to the passenger compartment for awhile. I suspect more will copy this.
Given a choice, I would rather be the recipient of nice engine sound than random strangers passed on the road, given the option of only one or the other.
Slightly off topic, just as I predicted a few years ago, coming electric models of well known cars may have selectable engine sounds blaring from hidden spks aimed outside. I read that for instance an eBoxster will have digital synthsized flat boxer engine noise broadcast to passersby, which mean inevitable MP3 like aftrrmarket downloads supplying screeching F1 exhaust note from coming all electric Prius like cars will be all over the road, making gas engined 911s sound like taxicabs by comparison.

The new M5 has that! Except the speakers are only for the inside not the outside. Still I find it silly.

BMW has been doing this for years with baffles that basically trumpet a little engine sound into the interior.

I don't like the idea much. A bit like padding a bra, in my opinion.

Re: 991 Cabriolet and 991 Carrera 4 - Time Table

    Can anyone confirm this

"Porsche 991 generation to last 14 years..."

    Porsche 991 soft-top: the new 911 Cabriolet

After the launch of the Carrera and Carrera S at the back end of 2011, we'll see the 911 Cabriolet next. The 911 cabrio's top still looks as if it was made of soft fabric, but it actually consists of three semi-rigid lightweight panels coated with a novel furry material which conceals the cutlines.

Our new scoop photos reveal the new 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet testing in Germany with the roof up. Inspired by the Boxster, the 911 convertible's folded stack does without a rigid tonneau cover.

    Porsche 991 four-wheel drive: the 911 Carrera 4

In December 2012, Porsche intends to launch the four-wheel drive versions of the new 911. Again, there will be coupes and cabriolets, badged both as Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S.

The sole available 911 engines for the first 18 months of production are a pair of uprated flat sixes. The next C2/C4 will be powered by a 3.4-litre direct-injection unit rated at 350bhp and 280lb ft; the C2S/C4S will be fitted with a 3.8-litre motor good for 400bhp and 325lb ft. Variocam Plus (adjustable camshafts), switchable manifolds and two-stage free-flow exhausts are standard on these 'base' 911s.

    Porsche 991 Turbo

For 2013, the Swabians are readying the next 911 Turbo Coupé; it'll be followed by the widebody whaletail soft-top in 2014, caught testing in our spy photos here.

Powering the 2013 911 Turbo is a more potent yet astonishingly frugal 3.8-litre flat six good for 520bhp, according to CAR's sources.

    Porsche 991 GT3

Still in 2013, we are going to see the new 911 GT3 powered by a high-revving normally-aspirated flat six - probably the last of its kind before the all-new downsized turbo boxers come on stream in 2015.

    Porsche 991 Targa, Speedster versions

For late 2014, the Weissach oracle is predicting the replacement for the 911 Targa which switches to the original removable roof panel scheme, rather than a sliding glass roof.

It may even be joined by a new 991 Speedster. Although this model has not yet been confirmed, design has mocked up a chopped-screen 911 which could sell well in sunny climes such as LA and the Middle East.

    Porsche 911 hybrid

Encouraged by the motor sport success of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, Porsche has prepared the DNA of project 991 to accommodate a conventional plug-in hybrid system at a later stage.

Right from the beginning, all Porsche's new rear-engined 911 sports cars will be fitted with a start-stop device, on-demand electrically driven auxiliary equipment, extensive thermo-management, ultracap regeneration under lift-off and braking and an AGM buffer battery. Masterminding the green hardware are a more advanced black box with CAN matrix. Together with the more efficient engines, these measures are said to warrant real-life fuel savings and emission reductions of 10% - minimum.

    Porsche 991: the future

Penned by Michael Mauer of Mercedes and Saab fame, the new-look Porsche is scheduled to retain the restyled proportions for two seven-year lifecycles. So pay attention: you'll be hearing plenty about the 991 over the next 14 years...

Re: 991 Cabriolet and 991 Carrera 4 - Time Table

Can someone explain to me why Ferrari, Maserati, Lambo, Audi, AM, Bentley, Corvette, Ford Mustang, Chev Camero and so on can have an aggressive exhaust and not Porsche? Don"t they all have to conform to environmental standards?

This is very disappointing news. I was seriously considering the 991 Turbo but now I will try talk my wife out of it. I don't want to pay that kind of money for a car to sound like pussy. If they want to pipe in the exhaust, they should provide a Ferrari CD.

Have you read my "Starnberg" thread ? You may get an answer to your question. Smiley

I have to admit though that for fast street driving (when possible and not dangerous), a more quiet exhaust could be the better choice.
