GT silver????

Is GT silver really that special ... or is it just a fluffy $2500 mark-up? Again, I'm just playing around in my head about color choices for the 9997TT to order - don't have paint chips to look at .....

I was told by my dealer that if I know what I want early on - then possibly I can move to a higher place on the "list" - i.e.- that some people on the list don't have their minds made up when it come time to order. SO of course I'm putting my car together months in advance of order.

IMO, it's not worth the extra cost.

You're dealer is wrong. I put in my order and made several changes during the first month or so afterwards. This did not change my build date at all. Then one day my dealer called me and told me that I had to finalize my order and I made several more changes, which again did not affect my build date. There are certain options for which there is a lead time and changing to them will affect your build date such as X51 and special colors. But making a change to a standard color should have no impact. My guess is that your dealer is just trying to lock you down on your options so that he can close out the order and not have to deal with a high maintenance customer (like me).

I would also have to say that your sales rep is blowing a little smoke!!!!! As I ordered mine in November and have made changes till about 3 weeks ago. GT silver. Saw it once in person and said OMG, that is beautiful! I went with Seal Grey.

If you like silver, GT silver is more "steel" like and varied in lighting conditions than artic. IMHO, it's totally worth it...

The dealer is not 100% wrong. If you choose a "special" color such as GT silver, it pushes back the build date by a month. If you settle for Arctic Silver and another customer changes her mind and goes for Cobalt or GT, you do get bumped.

As for the Arctic vs GT Silver debate, I'd say it depends much on the wheather. The more sun, the better GT Silver looks: it is the better color in So Cal or Florida.
I have not been to the Bay Area but FOG is the word that comes to my mind when I think about SF. So, I'd stick with Arctic. YMMV.

IMO, GT silver is verrrry sexy close up. If you compare the metallic sparkles of Arctic to GT silver the latter are muuuuuch more eye-candy-ish. I've only seen it in the show room and once in parking lot, but I imagine if you owned one in GT silver and lived with those extra sparkles in various ambient light situations (sunrise, sunset, partial clouds) you'd be very happy with your choice.

GT is worth it! I've seen it many times in person and am drawn to it for some reason. Got to get the XRR's in color too. Amazing.... just look at toomey' car. Best looking coupe color. Especially w/ terra cotta.

Well, all I was saying was that some people who are on lists haven't made up their minds when it comes time to order - and others get bumped ahead of them. If you get allocation spot #5 - and its your turn to order - and you sit on your thumbs - the dealer is going to take the next in line to fill the order - thats all. I'm sure there are lots of people on the lists who don't ever order at all.

996Toome -- GT silver looks awesome! Sort of deeper, more metallic silver. Does it slow down delivery to get GT SIlver??? I may sounds a bit naive, but I've never had to wait for a Porsche before - just bought them off the lot.

If you are ordering anyway shouldn't slow the order. You will be given a build month allocation and your car will be built that month. I waited for a Nov Build and gave up August because I wanted X51 and it hadn't been released yet in August. BTW I had Arctic Silver prior to the GT Silver and the GT SIlver is much deeper and richer IMO.

GT is a stunning color. I would advise seeing it in person to get a real sense of it's beauty. I went with it, and often get a lot of compliments!

Like someone else said, it's a deeper, darker and richer variant of silver.
