Oil Pressure Gauge

On the manual, it states that the oil pressure should be around 3.5 at 5000rpm when the oil and engine is warmed up. I had a look at my oil pressure gauge today while accelerating to 5000rpm and mine says 5 and not 3.5. Should I be worried? Should I take it to the dealer?

No, this is fine. 3.5Bar is the minimum that is expected. Generally, your motor should be around 4.5 to 5 Bar at all times when the revs are that high - only lower at low engine speeds.

Any number means engine oil is circulating thru engine keeping it alive. Higher numbers at higher revs, lower numbers at idle. Really not an essential instrument since there's iidiot lights and maybe an audible alarm when oil pressure goes too low as a result of no oil or breakdown in oil circuit.

If it stays characteristically lower than manual sez, it's a way to tell engine is in bad shape or guage is innaccurate. Usually the latter since a bad engine will show other symptoms too. Maybe too low or too high indicates wrong viscosity oil has been added at recent oil change.

That's all I know.

3.5 is the minimum, you should not worry that it is higher as long as it moves with the RPM speed, if it hangs up while low rpm or moves up/down radicaly then you need to see the dealer..

I asked the service representative at the dealer about oil pressure and oil consumption when I brought the car in last April for installation of the clear side markets. He said it was normal for it to be at 5 when running at 3,000+ rpm.
