Question for US forum members - Cayenne Turbo

Hi all, a very good friend of mine just moved to the US a week ago. He is in the process of procuring a car and have located a highly specced Cayenne Turbo. This car is according to the dealer the highest specced CTT in stock in the US right now. He will only buy this car if he gets a very good deal. In the current economic climate, I don't see why he should not be aiming for a great deal. Problem is, neither of us understand the US pricing model or what constitute a great deal. This is where I need your advice. I hear a lot about "x percent under invoice" from US forum members. So what percentage should he be shooting for? Or should it be a different metrics? Thanks in advanced!

Re: Question for US forum members - Cayenne Turbo

Good luck with that. I received only nominal discounts from my dealer, maybe 1%, I don't recall exactly, but I think other markets are more competitive. In general, Porsche dealers don't do much discounting.

Re: Question for US forum members - Cayenne Turbo

When I bought my S Cab in 2006, they gave me a 5% discount

Re: Question for US forum members - Cayenne Turbo

Dealer invoice is about 9% less than MSRP on a Turbo Cayenne.....so I would think it's going to be hard to get more than a 4-5%  discount off the MSRP.

Re: Question for US forum members - Cayenne Turbo

I got 5% off about nine months ago.

Re: Question for US forum members - Cayenne Turbo

I just moved to the UK, but when I looked into a Cayenne in March this year, dealer offered me 4% straight-away, which was on a new-build with a May build slot. They are historically prepared to deal even more on stock they have. Your friend, if he wants it, should walk in, make an offer, and deal on the spot. The whole notion of "the highest specced CTT in the country" is actually a positive bargaining tool, beacuse your friend should tell them that he is not going to pay for a whole heap of stuff he does not want.

Re: Question for US forum members - Cayenne Turbo

And I was looking at a CTT...

Re: Question for US forum members - Cayenne Turbo

Also, a common practice here is to get competing offers from different dealers and give them a chance to 'bid' on your business. So if your friend is in a market with more than one Porsche dealer, and if those other dealers also have any Cayenne Turbos on the lot, he might want to do this: get the first dealer to write up a deal and then take it to the others to see  what kind of deals they'll make, get those in writing and then bring those back to the first guy, or to whoever has the vehicle he wants most.
