    Mercedes ML 63 AMG - tough competitor?

    The upcoming Mercedes ML 63 AMG gets the new 6.3 l engine with 510 HP. Rumors indicate that AMG plans to offer an optional speed limit raise to 270-280 kph (ML 63 AMG will be limited to 250 kph) due to the standard height adjustable air suspension.

    Tough times coming up for the Porsche Cayenne.

    Maybe. For me it was much more about the handling. The ML just did not have the steering feel or suspension responsiveness that the Cayenne had. I can see where the power may be more significant for you where you have the ability to take your vehicle to top speeds on the autobahn. For me the Cayenne S power is more than adequate for an SUV.

    Also, I think there may be a big SUV/big horsepower backlash coming in the US. Porsche's best move would be to buy the RX400H hybrid technology ASAP and install it in a Cayenne. That would sell.

    I must confess that I haven't kept up with the development of a new ML. The '99 ML 430 sitting in my driveway is one of the primary reasons I'm driving a Cayenne now. The quality issues with the early MLs made the issues with early Cayennes seem trivial. My friends with AMGs, both MLs and sedans, haven't fared any better in recent years. I sure hope that the new ML has design improvements and, especially quality improvements. The AMG versions have always been tempting to me, but they lost all pretense of off-road capability, without enough on the plus side to balance, for my needs, since I don't get to have "Autobahn fun" like RC

    On the other hand, we all know that most buyers of SUVs don't care about that, including most Cayenne buyers. So, maybe the new ML 63 will prove to be the Cayenne-slayer, unless, of course, the face-lift turns out to be more like the ML than the current Cayenne in these regards

    i still won't buy an ML, i see one every 20mins here, too common, i see a cayenne once every 3 weeks

    Only 630 nm?

    Your power-kit Cayenne has 700 nm!

    Power is not everything, but the facts are awesome.
    It is self-enginered by AMG. We will see, how it works. Maybe like the the 2004 F1-Engine , maybe like the 2005.

    Mike they're giving Cayennes away for free when you arrive in Beverly Hills...

    Just read ML 63 will have power domes, optional 20 inch wheels and AMG sport seats. Will be available March 06.

    I'm sorry, I was "dreaming". I meant a 6.3 l V8 (not V12) and 510 HP. Sorry.

    man.. i dont know

    in my location

    the numbers of cayenne(mostly base models and S) are increasing and almost same as ML..
    seeing almost 5 to 10 everyday..if you dont stay at home for the whole day

    more seriously: the ML 63 AMG will give Cayenne something to think about, and the Panamera will hopefully give some of the elite Mercedes sedans something to consider as well...

    things are heating up!!

    Well, I was actually "dreaming" about a Brabus G-class with a V12 and over 600 HP when I wrote that.
