    Dealer's rumors

Talked to my dealer today and he confirmed what's been told before on the forum, so nothing new but interesting nonetheless.
Word at Porsche Levallois (France's biggest Porsche centre and owned by PAG) is that 997 will be introduced at Paris motor show in September followed very shortly by an S version. Expect respectively 345 hp and 370 hp.
Dealer said that it would be an unusual move from Porsche with respect to its model history but that's what he hears.
    Sounds faily reasonnable to me.

    Re: Dealer's rumors

Fanch, I know that you are extremely knowledgable about all things Porsche; but the rumor at the Porsche dealership that I work at, is that they are going to show the 997 @ Geneva.
Is that even possible ? I don't think so. Revvv

    Re: Dealer's rumors

I believe fanch's make more sense.

Geneva would be probably 30th anniv. Turbo a.k.a Turbo S
    and
    Paris the all new 997

370hp for the 'S' sounds awesome. May be after all Porsche woke up and smelled the coffee

    Re: Dealer's rumors

Or maybe because Aston's AMV8 is going to have 370-380hp?

    Re: Dealer's rumors

i've read today in german "auto zeitung" that the standard C2 will get the current 3.6l flat6 with 320 HP and the S version (introduced at the same time like fanch said) 360 HP.

Absolutely, I think it will be very popular since it will fill a current gap in the model range b/w the C2 & the TT, since the C4S is not really an "S" model but rather a Turbo-look with not added HP and 200lbs extra weight. And the GT3 is not suited for everyone with its very low ground clearance, no rear seats and no PSM.

I wonder what added goodies will it have besides the extra HP, sport-suspension and 18" wheels? wider look/more agressive bumpers (hopefully different form the 997TT)? sport exhaust? GT3 seats?... ok, I think I'm being too optimistic now

    Re: Dealer's rumors

So it's possible, that Porsche shows the 987 at geneva...

    Re: Dealer's rumors

Just what I hear my friend
And I'm not that knowleadgeable, I just read the 911 handbook by great journalist Paul Frere, a fantastic book, although almost too technical in some respects.
PS: Just in my very humble opinion, I don't think we'll see the 997 at Geneva. Maybe a couple of pics at best like they did with the Cayenne a while ago.

    Re: Dealer's rumors

Very possibly. But I still think that the Aston will be much heavier. They have a history for being heavy.
All future astons share the VH platform (Vertical Horizontal) and considering that the DB9 is a very heavy car, I don't see how the V8Vantage can be much lighter (maybe 150 kgs by deleting rear seats and taking off 4 cylinders?)
Anyhow, 996 is pretty light amongst the competition (1350 kgs) let's hope the 997 doens't top 1400 kgs!
I'm with you Carlito! I Like that S idea! 1400 kgs, 370 kgs, nice! Make it 1470 kgs for me since I love cabs! That's still lighter than my car for 50 hp more!

No it hasn't, but that's why I gave a general range.

    Fanch,
The AMV8 will probably be closer to 1500kg, which is still a little heavy. However, I'm not sure you realize how much smaller of a car it is than the DB9. They share the same platform, but the chassis is possibily modular and can be extended or shortened. The DB9 is at least 1700kg, so your savings estimates aren't too far off actually.

About the 996 weight...in the U.S. at least, your basic 996 Carrera weighs at least 1350kg and I wonder how realistic this figure is once it gets on the road (especially considering that Porsche lists the coupes and their equivalent cab versions as the same weight). The popular C4S hits 1500kg easily. What happens if you add a cab and tiptronic? 1600-1700kg sports car?

    Re: Dealer's rumors

The DB9 weights in excess of 1700 kgs, that's no lightweight. That's Maser Coupe and BMW 6 territory.
I would love the future V8 Vantage to weight 1500 kg. She's the one who will target the 997. If it does, it's a winner, because to be honest, it is gorgeous!!!
From what I've read, I must say that Porsche at least is very honest about their car's weight.
If the european Carrera is advertised at 1360 kgs, then it is 1360 kgs.
Then if you add, a soft top, a PCM, a 4x4 system, etc etc etc then it's your responsability.
I'm hoping the base 997 won't be more than 1400 kgs.
