4th model not a saloon - throw away comment?

Article in Autoexpress today about the Carrera 4/4S Cabs, a line at the end of the article...

"Meanwhile a Porsche insier has hinted at details of the 4th model line from the firm. Specualtion about anyaddition has centred around the rumoured Panamerica - a big 4 door saloon - but our source says the proposed model will be a small SUV

Following the formula of its Boxster - a Pounds35,000 sports car that sits below the 911 - the new car will be pitched at the same price, and compliment the big selling Cayenne off-roader"

OK, Autoexpress sometimes not the most accurate, but thoughts?

OK, Autoexpress sometimes not the most accurate, but thoughts?

If they're targeting Eurpean market it could be a success but if U.S. is included in their statistics they should know other manufacturer are not doing so well with their mini-SUVs such as X3 and Freelander.

What happened to the front engined V8 M3 rival that was rumoured a few years ago. Has this been canned is it would appeal to the same buyers (in terms of price) as the cayman?

A small SUV would be a big mistake in my opinion. Unless they sell it at a very attractive price and put a Diesel in it too.

Cayenne sales have slowed down. The biggest problem of the Cayenne in Europe is the missing Diesel engine (only Mr. Wiedeking knows the reason for this, in my opinion, very unclever decision).
And how long will the Cayenne sell in the US if fuel prices rise further?

It is time for something big with four doors but less weight and less fuel consumption. But maybe Porsche doesn't know what they're up to: I just heard that Mercedes plans to put their new 6.3 l V12 510 HP monster engine into the CLS. I know that Porsche wants to adapt a V10 with aprox. 600 HP for the Panamera but I'm not sure how much such a version would cost.

Anyway: if Porsche thinks they can sell 10000 Panamera, they may be lucky.
Unfortunately the competition (Audi, BMW and Mercedes) doesn't sleep and I expect some very tough competition when the Panamera shows up. Not easy for Porsche, the Panamera may actually be THE decision point regarding Porsche indepence in the wider future.

If they make that small SUV I think it would seriously hurt Porsches reputation as a serious performance car company.

The 5th will be a mid-engined V8 or V10 supercar (internal development code : E3), spiritual successor to the Carrera GT to be released after the 998 and 988..

Finally got my Autocar this week - they've pictures of what is meant to be a test mule of the new vehicle. They're still saying it's a 4 door saloon, but the test mule is a Cayenne look alike, wonder if that's where the confusion has come from...?

(Bugger - you guys are going to want a scan now aren't you?! And we all know how good I am at those - not!)

hahaha yeah 5th model, ok. But the upcoming 4th is coming to be something quite similar to the all new Mercedes R class.. imagine the posibilities, a whole new market while porsche can still maintain their sports image. The 4th model will be between the 911 (which some might see as too small/sporty) and the Cayenne ( which some might see as too big and SUV like).. Porsche could easely use Cayenne parts and build in some 911 design elements, while using CGTs and Cayennes engines. I can see this happening because it will allow porsche to more directly compete with BMW and Mercedes, while at the same time making this 4th model with little development costs..
