Fun in a SUV (SUV comparison with Cayenne Turbo S, German TV)

If you think you can't have fun in a SUV, please think again (after watching this):

The Porsche is great and it's obvious that it is the best car in this comparison, but at almost double the price of the RR, I wouldn't even think about the Porsche to be honest. Not for the purpose of the car.  It remains an SUV and personally i don't see the fun of it, driving the way they do. If I want to drive like that,  i'll take the Boxster and I will have 10x the fun.

Nevertheless, both Porsche and RR are great cars of course, but i would be more satisfied with a V6 diesel. Don't need more in a SUV. The BMW is not my cup of tea.

With four persons and luggage? I would love to see that. Smiley

Yes, I drive my SUV like hell too...this is how it is supposed to be driven (just waiting now for Nick to come to whip me Smiley).

High powered SUVs are fun to drive, sometimes even more than a Boxster. Smiley

I don't drive like that with 3 passengers in my car   In fact, I hardly ever have more than one passenger in my car. The only time that happens is when i need to take customers with me and in that case I will for sure not drive like that.

But no one on this planet can convince me that an SUV can be more fun than a Boxster or any other sportscar.  It's a ultility vehicle.... Nothing more, nothing less. It's nice if it handles well and if there is a powerful engine under the hood, but a powerful diesel is more than enough for my taste. To each his or her own of course

We have to meet once... I am going to be at lake Garda in spring, so maybe others could join. Not sure what car I am going to drive but it may be the SRT8. Smiley I enjoy the challenge of driving such a heavy monster fast and usually, I get some surprised faces. Not sure how good the SRT8 is though, so far, I have tried this only with the Cayenne and the X5M. Let's hope for the best though. Smiley Smiley

Diesel suck. I thought I can live with them but I can't. My wife has one of the fastest Diesel SUVs on the market (X3 35d) and I still hate this car. Smiley

If I would not need the space I would not choose an SUV.

Same here but when you need the space, you make the best out of it. Right? Smiley Smiley

I also think that Diesel engines suck. I had a few in my life and did not like any of them. I only know one exception: the Cayenne Diesel S. Besides the fact that it has the Mount Everest of torque it has an amazing, deep, grumbling sound like a big petrol V8. In combination, it is just fun to drive. That thing pulls - unbelieveable.

True but look at this video and tell me you don't get goose bumps. Smiley

It even has TÜV (don't ask how they did it... Smiley). Smiley

A bit price though...4200 EUR incl. install.

Wait until you hear it on my car, then you can decide.

Yep - I will wait. The problem might be that you right away will have the "poser" sticker on your forehead! And I know myself - I like it noisy.... I probably would not be able to drive around quiet Smiley

Re: Fun in a SUV (SUV comparison with Cayenne Turbo S, German TV)

The exhaust has a flap control but you are right, the dealer told me that once you get used to it, you drive it with the flaps open most of the time. angry I really put a lot of pressure on the dealer to get the exhaust ready for my pickup, it wasn't easy (the exhaust is hand made). Almost got him to do that 7.3 l tuning on my engine too but I just couldn't do it...lots of money (20k) and the car is fast enough (hopefully). It makes more sense to wait for that supercharged monster successor.

I was thinking about a cold air intake mod (instead of the current air filter box) but dealer advised against it, he said that the exhaust is already very loud, the louder suction sound would not really be heard and the cold air intake can create problems because of the very hot engine. Since the dealer has a lot of experience with tuning, I trust him.

There are a few ECU mods he can do (more aggressive shifting, even better throttle response and a couple of optimizations which would require at least 98 octane fuel), cost is around 1200 EUR as far as I remember but I'm not a friend of ECU mods on a N/A car, so I won't do it. The dealer's chief mechanic told me however that the SRT ECU is quite adaptive, even to higher fuel qualities, so using VPower could actually improve performance (I am going to find out if this is true).

Regarding the sound of the exhaust: People actually expect this from a true US SUV, so I wouldn't worry too much about the exhaust being too loud. Smiley
