James Allen's verdict on Brasil - Alonso haters please read

    Some highlights:

    Quote:
Yet another podium finish at Interlagos was enough to assure Fernando Alonso of a place in the history books as Formula 1's youngest ever world champion.

ITV-F1 commentator James Allen says the Spaniard's achievement is richly deserved, as he has been the most consistent and complete driver over the course of the season.

    Quote:
Perhaps he was a bit demotivated by the fact that Alonso was always going to get the third place he needed to clinch the title, but Kimi seemed a bit off-form here.

And of course he made a mistake in qualifying, trying to brake for turn one later than at any time in practice.

If you look back he has been the second best McLaren driver in the last three grands prix, which says an awful lot for Montoya, who many felt would get blown away this year by Kimi.

It promises to be a heck of a scrap between them next year, possibly for the world title if McLaren can maintain their current supremacy.

    Quote:
Ron Dennis very cleverly sought to offset some of Raikkonen's disappointment recently by saying that the world championship is only a 'badge' and that Kimi has been the better driver this year.

    I disagree with both statements.

I bet Alonso feels like he has won more than a badge today and Kimi knows that too.

Although Kimi has been mesmerisingly quick at times this year and has often lost wins through no fault of his own, he has made more mistakes than Alonso and at times he has been shaded by his team-mates, Montoya and also de la Rosa in Bahrain.

Alonso has never been shaded by Fisichella and has made only two mistakes that I can think of: obviously the one in Canada where he hit the wall, but also in Hungary where he made a mistake in qualifying which put him sixth on the grid and into trouble at the first corner.

I've no doubt that the best driver has won the world title this year.

He has driven aggressively when he needed to, intelligently when that was called for, but above all he has driven with great consistency.

This was proved today with his 13th podium in 16 starts

    JAMES ALLEN'S VERDICT

I have enormous respect for James Allen. Excellent commentator. He provides good insight and his opinions invariably deserve respect whether you agree with him or not on a particular issue.

    JAMES ALLEN'S VERDICT

This is what I thought exactly!!!!

Re: James Allen's verdict on Brasil - Alonso haters please read

Its a fair summation of the season. Next year may not be McLaren's year though as all teams are starting afresh with v8 engines. The great tussle between kimi and juan pablo may mean that fernando will still be close even if his car is inferior. Looking forward to next season already. Something I wouldn't have thought to say in the ferrari dominated last few years.

Re: James Allen's verdict on Brasil - Alonso haters please r

I agree for the most part, but I'm betting some of those mistakes Kimi made were largely a result of the extra pressure put on him because some his most dominant performances provided no rewards.

Re: James Allen's verdict on Brasil - Alonso haters please r

    Who is this James Allen?
    Alonso's hairdresser?
Obviously he hasn't been watching the races this season.

Re: James Allen's verdict on Brasil - Alonso haters please r

Well I think its obvious Kimi is the fastest driver. But ALonso never made mistakes so he deserves credit for his consistency,.
