2 P Cars in one week!!

I had a 2006 C4S Cab with x51, GT Silver and Terracota Natural leather. Loved that car and had no intention of trading it. So I decided to get a daily driver that would work better in winter/snow traffic on I95 tham my 911 Cab. Decided to with a Macan Turbo. Ordered it back in April, when there were still long lines and no additional allocations to the US had been made. Got an allocation for delivery in July...

In the meantime it downed on me that at some point I would want to upddate my 997 and the more I heard about the turbos becoming the standard I convinced myself that I was only advancing what I would do anyway in a couple of years and tried to get a GTS allocation. Asked my dealership, and it wasn't moving too quickly, got lots of excuses why it wasn't happening and that it would happen soon. After two months, decided to change course and contacted another dealership, who had handled my first Porsche. In two days, they got me an allocation and I placed an order. Estimated delivery was August 28.

Finally last week on Monday, went to pick up my Macan and I'm really enjoying it. Three days later I get a phone call that my GTS had arrived. Went to pick it up on Friday of last week.

Here are some pics of my new toys. Now it is time to enjoy them.

Thanks for all of the input in the buying process, especially Suzy, Carlos and RC. Their advice was very helpful

Re: 2 P Cars in one week!!

Thanks Carlos, I'm loving the GTS. I'll post some notes in a couple of weeks. Some quick observations:

    - more comfortable than the 997. In normal mode without pushing it,  the car it feels like a sedan. Press sport and step on the gas and the car transforms itself. Even more on Sport Plus, but I'm still holding below 4000 rpms for a couple of weeks.

-steering is pretty good. I can feel the road and feel the vibrations through the steering wheel. Not nearly as much as the 997, but it is still there.

-PSE sounds terrific. I'll have to wait for another couple hundred miles and then I'll start pushing the car harder.

-the sound system  is terrific. Way, way better than the Bose.

Great looking GTS. Congratulations. Leather and Alcantara with red deviated stitching is spectacular.

Re: 2 P Cars in one week!!

Congratulations, great stable there. Smiley Love the GTS contrast stitching on the backs of the sports seats and vent trims, finishes the interior off really well. Smiley

    lots of lovely deviated stitching

is it correct that the additional leather trim options come with deviated stitching free as you had selected GTS interior package?

I made the same enquiry when I was thinking of the GTS interior package on our car and Porsche confirmed that deviated stitching is automatically included if you specify additional leather items. Smiley

Re: 2 P Cars in one week!!

Dream car is correct. No additional charges for deviated stitching. It would have been extra on the steering wheel, but I'll wait and see if the new wheel can be retrofitted and if can I'll do it at that time.

Beautiful cars, especially that GTS (I wonder why I like it so much... Smiley), congratulations and enjoy!!! Smiley

Btw: I regret not getting Burmester, the BOSE sucks in the Cab (not that it really matters, the exhaust sound is just intoxicating Smiley). Good choice. Smiley

Re: 2 P Cars in one week!!

Thank you RC, I picked a couple of my options based on your feedback. I'm enjoying the GTS, but there are things gained and things lost. I use to describe to my wife how my 997 with X51, was the closest feel to a motorcycle. I'll never say that about the 991. On the other hand, the additional comfort coming back home after a nice dinner is very welcome. And I do love the Jekyll and Hide personality of the car. The Sport Plus changes the car completely and has all the emotion you'd ever want from a car.

    Ziggy, thanks!!

Does your 991 have PDCC? My (PDCC-equipped car) feels like the sportiest 911 Carrera I ever drove...in my life. Smiley

Also, does your car have Power Steering Plus? This could be another "issue".

Re: 2 P Cars in one week!!

    Rc,

No PDCC, but body roll is not an issue. Absolutely no Power Steering Plus!

I'm happy with the GTS,  it is not as raw as the 997, but that's not so bad. I miss my old car, but I know that I'll be enjoying this much more. The four wheel drive is much improved. It is mostly a RWD, but when coming out of a curve I can feel that I can step on the gas and the grip will be there. The front of the car doesn't bob up and down when going fast. and it is easier to go on a long trip with my wife, much more comfortable. She loves the car.

I'm also still getting used to the PDK and I need more free time to enjoy the car. Next week I'll have some time!!

The Burmester is a great addition. Never thought I could get that great a sound on a 911.

Re: 2 P Cars in one week!!

A lot of that IMHO is due to the new electromechanical steering in the 991, the 997 traditional hydraulic steering was a lot more "nervous" and more kart like.

    Carlos from Spain:

A lot of that IMHO is due to the new electromechanical steering in the 991, the 997 traditional hydraulic steering was a lot more "nervous" and more kart like.

I remember the nervous steering (around centre-point) of the 997 being discussed here when the model was introduced. Some people put it down then to the new variable-ratio steering rack.
I was more inclined to think that it was due to factory-recommended nominal toe-in of front wheels having been reduced to zero (presumably to minimally reduce fuel consumption and/or front tyre wear, but at the expense of optimal steering feel when driving straight ahead).

Re: 2 P Cars in one week!!

    Thanks Carlos and Fritz,

Whatever it was that caused the "nervous" steering (by the way, great description) I miss it. I loved the nervous steering.

I still get some feedback from the road (apparently more noticeable on the 4), but it is as if the volume had been dialed down from an 8 to 2.

Re: 2 P Cars in one week!!

    Congrats!

with all its weaknesses, Macan turbo blows Cayenne turbo out of the water.  It's so much more fun and responsive to drive on pavement!!!  Nice colour.  Just don't go too far off road in the MT, it does not cut it!!!

    Enjoy!!
