    Cayenne and Dogs

I'm planning on giving my wife the Cayenne Turbo when the new P-car comes. Does anyone transport their dogs in their Cayenne? If so, where do you put them? Does anyone make a good seat cover to protect the rear seats? How do you go about protecting the leather seat backs and door panels? We have two pugs and they love to look out the window when they ride. So my wife is reluctant to place them back in the luggage compartment. Any suggestions?

    Re: Cayenne and Dogs

I use my Cayenne Turbo S to transport my Rottweilers (German, of course); for safety, the Rotts are in dog crates. The Cayenne is a great vehicle for Hundesport.

    Re: Cayenne and Dogs

I have the custom covers from these guys http://www.caninecovers.com/ for my CTT and the wife's Lexus. A little pricey, but they are extremely well made and have custom cut-outs for the seat belts. Their pattern for the Cayenne apparently is not cut for the soft-leather seats: the seat back portion is secured by velcro straps, which were too short. I emailed them and they custom-made some extension straps and sent them quickly. They also sell little panels to protect the door panel, held in place by plastic strips that slide down inside the window. They are less effective than the seat covers, but they help.

The only thing left is to replace the Vader costume with a suitable harness to anchor to the seatbelt, to protect the precious pooch and keep him/her from becoming a deadly (and likely dead) projectile in the event of an accident. And, of course, we never let our pups stick our heads out the window, do we? Lots of risk for ocular damage, especially for the brachycephalic breeds like pugs.

Can you tell my dogs are spoiled?

Happy motoring to you and your Top Dogs.

    Re: Cayenne and Dogs

Thanks for the tips Sigs! Who sez "it's a dog's life?" Some days I wish I had it so good!

    Re: Cayenne and Dogs

We bought the rather nice but rather expensive Porsche guard but after getting fed up of taking it in and out I started using the pull up net to keep the Dobe in the back.

However, you need to get a taller dog if they like the view... or train them to balance on top of a box

    Re: Cayenne and Dogs

Those are the funniest pics I've ever seen of a dog dressed up! The Darth Vader outfit is just awesome!

Putting them in the back with the pull up net was my initial solution to the dilemma. However, they do like to look out and I don't think my wife is going to go for the balancing on a box offer. Rather than a taller dog I suspect she'd opt for a new husband. We may try to build up some type of foam perch so they can ride back there and still sight see.

    Re: Cayenne and Dogs

I pull up my net as well, and my boxer jumps right in. I usually throw his dog bed in first.

    Re: Cayenne and Dogs

Elmo (Bernese Mountain Dog-95 pounds) rides in the back with the rear seats in the "down" position. I don't use the net.

On one occasion he decided to climb into the front passenger seat and then into my lap. We had a talk.

He has mastered the "down" command when we hit a curve. I keep a duplicate of his dog bed and a few towels in the back.

If necessary, can a dog the size of Elmo happily fit with the rear seats up...or would that be so tight as to constitute animal cruelty?

Is a dog driving around in a porsche a cruely ??? I don't think so. Most humans would still be happy to get a ride in the porsche's trunk. Even if it's a 911.

Since we are talking about a Bernese Mountain Dog, the answer probably depends on whether the dog is on duty and wearing a barrel of brandy strapped to its neck.

    Re: Cayenne and Dogs

There is barely enough room with the rear seat up but on a long trip not enough space for the dog to move around a bit.
