    Re: 991 Speedster

    Whoopsy:

Speedster is getting announced June 8th.

I already turned down my car.

Between the one I saw inn Geneva and the production one the car lost it's soul and purpose.

They are also making too many. 1948 is a big number, that's more than 911R+918.

For those that wanted one, there will be more than enough to go around, quite a few 918 VIPs are not taking theirs.

Was the price out of proportion as well?

    Re: 991 Speedster

The prototype I was had a super chopped windshield that didn't make it to production, they also added a top.

The fact that they are making too many also played into the decision.

Depends what's out of proportion. I mean, the 991 pricing in general is already out of line.

Don't have exact pricing yet, my guess it will be perhaps around Turbo S level. Won't be sky high like the GT2RS or the Turbo S Exclusive.

But then again if they price it that low it just means all the flippers will be buying up all the cars.

It sounds like a missed opportunity to re-establish a classic 911 Speedster...

It's a trunk facelift. Can't imagine the demand is huge for such a thing.

A 911 speedster should be a convertible GT3 touring with PDK-S and maybe a lower windshield. Short of that it is just an overpriced parts bin useless exercise.

That implies only ~$200k.  I am shocked if it's that low.  I expected it like GT2 RS...

IMO, it should be a convertible 911R with some unique visual exterior and interior elements, extra lightweight, Manual, and 520hp...

    Re: 991 Speedster

Owning a targa with the uprated engine, i find the speedster more and more interesting

i know many people that say the spyder is one of the best modern driving porsches

this being a relatively lightweight 991 together with the gt3 engine plus some exotic looks- i find myself more and more drawn to it

ok it wont be as limited as the R - producing double but in my book that’s still pretty rare and desirable albeit we buy them to enjoy them?

    would love your thoughts......

Yes, should be considerably lighter than your Targa.  I think if you like open-air motoring and the idea of a 9,000rpm motor with Manual, I would do it Smiley

    Re: 991 Speedster

I doubt it will be much lighter than a GTS convertible since it will share >90% of the parts with it including the engine.

    Re: 991 Speedster

    2 factors

cost and needing to change my targa which was a special edition

    Re: 991 Speedster

Sorry to keep posting but feel dynamically this will be by far the best speedster wver

last models had standard engines with nothing extraordinary to define it

Yes, but GTS Cab is already considerably lighter than Targa.  And Speedster does not share engine with GTS (shares with GT3 RS)

Production numbers? They will make more .2 GT3RS than the Speedster.

A good point well made by Grant! Smiley

I am confident that the flat-six 4.0 motorsport engine in the 991 Speedster will be the strongest contributor to the overall experience...  1527608803154image.gif

Anyone who owns or has driven a GT3 or RS model can attest to the defining character of a motorsport engine! Smiley

We can expect some fantastic "five-star" road tests and videos, including Chris Harris on Top Gear in a Porsche 991 Speedster on full opposite lock with the open top and the motorsport flat-six engine screaming at 9,000rpm...  image.gif

The outstanding success of, inter alia, the 911 R, GT3, GT3 RS and Speedster as "halo" models for the Porsche range will provide all the support Andreas Preuninger needs to maintain the naturally-aspirated flat-six 4.0 motorsport engine in production through the 992 generation... Smiley

That means we can expect further model variants from Andreas Preuninger and his elite team of engineers at Weissach... Smiley

    Re: 991 Speedster

The speedster is going to be epic... They should produce as much as they could, so that they don't end up being stored in a sellar. I only wish we had better weather in the UAE to enjoy a drop top experience and I would have been all over it. I was offered a 3RS but the manual in the GT3T is more appealing to me. A touring cabriolet would appeal to many more.

    Re: 991 Speedster

Sorry if I misunderstood that the GT3 engine was not going to be in the speedster... That’s a step in the right direction if it is the GT3 engine...

thanks to VW diesel gate, all associated expenses and ongoing diesel fiasco recall campaign to push the teams to redesign their model with existing parts and make it less exclusive then first intention. Smiley

all in all, it will still be sold out very quickly even if they put flat 4 NA in it. the hype is massive at the moment. and the money is free everywhere.Smiley

I'm still in for now.  Whoopsy is not getting one, I have to be the first in my dealership now.

I wanted to add a convertible anyway.  GT3 engine and manual, that's all I need.

1948 is a big number, much bigger than the usual 911s that I buy.angel

Its asking price will be the main obstacle, we will see.
