    M3 worldwide recall

    7,500 M3s recalled worldwide due to a transmission defect relating to the Double-clutch gearbox.

    I don't have more details. Check it out at your dealer.

    I've read it on the Auto, Motor & Sport site, but didn't give any more details.

    I presume it should be about electronics or peripherals based on various problems reported by owners. Not sure.

    There were couple of glitches in the software that owners were concerned about.  The new software speeds up shifting while taking care of numerous bugs that sometimes lead to dangerous driving situations such as stalling and disengaging.  I do not have any personal experience just what I read on BMW boards, however if this is mechanical maybe we have  a second GTR situation :)

    I would be surprised if it was mechanical with Getrag being the designer/manufacturer of the BMW box.

    I doubt the problem is as critical as Nissan's.

    Did you manage to get any further info?

    The Recall is just about the DKG software update we mentioned in an earlier thread.

    I actually mentioned this software problem in my July 08 M3 Cab vs. 997 Carrera Cab comparison but it took BMW almost three months to publish the update.

    The update also addresses other issues.

    Again: the recall is just about software, nothing else. It can be done easily at your local BMW dealer.

    There is a huge difference in shifting times, instead of making "klaaack", "klaack", it now makes "klack", "klack". Very instant upshift and downshift, it is actually a lot of fun.

    Some people may not like it though since the aggressive shifting feel has almost completely disappeared. I'm also missing the double-clutch(hopefully this is the right English expression for it) throttle noise which was fun but I have been told that this noise may re-appear after aprox. 1000 km because the software has to adapt to the driving style.

    I think they call the "blip" or sometimes they write it as  "bleep". The expression used is "blipping the throttle". But I might be wrong as I am not english myself.
