Simple: I wanted a super sportscar like the Huracan but with better Autobahn performance and some fresh looks. I have owned basically every modern 911 model (first one was a 993 but I owned a 996 Carrera, 996 Carrera 4 Powerkit, 996 Turbo, 997 Carrera S, 997 Turbo, 991 Turbo S and now a 991 Carrera 4 Cabriolet) and I was kind of fed up with the look, especially the interior looks so outdated.
I actually wanted to get a used R8 V10 Plus (first generation) because yes, the engine is a treat and I just wanted to try something new. Luckily, I found an Audi dealer who made me a very good offer for the new R8, a car he had in stock as a test car for selected customers. Even now, that same dealer has tons of slightly used (under 3k km) R8 V10 Plus from the Audi Experience events, cars they give away at pretty attractive prices.
The engine sound is just divine, there aren't many cars on the market to top that. I get goosebumps when I drive this car. Also, I always wanted a Huracan but it was out of the question because of my social environment. Then, there is the R8 interior. This interior is looking so good, quality is top notch and, from an emotional point of view, two generations ahead of the 911 interior. I also love the gearbox, it shifts so fast and this car just feels like a super sportscar, something I always dreamt of.
Maybe I'm just too old and Porsche didn't put their "960" on the market in time for me...
