    Ruf introduces V8 911 at Geneva

    sounds interesting.

    • 4.5L V8
    • 550HP, normally aspirated, 8,500RPM
    • engine is lighter than flat-6 in GT3RS, and also shorter, so can be mounted lower in the car
    • flat-plane crankshaft, so will this scream like a Ferrari?

    V8 may be roughly based off the Cayenne V8?  though given the crankshaft and revlimit, seems extensively reworked

    indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

    Will be very interesting to check the sound once the 991 testmules will lap the 'Ring. Still flat-6 or also a V8 similar to the RUF engine Smiley I don't think that Porsche will develop a flat-8 (not enough economies of scale...Smiley)

    I have to admit that I don't quite understand why RUF would do that but I guess nowadays you need to find something to differentiate from other tuners/manufacturers, so this may be it.

    Sorry but I still prefer an "old fashioned" ass whopping twin turbo charged engine in my 911.

    i'm willing to be the next step here will be twin turbo chargers on this V8... Smiley

    ok yes well, that's fair enough!  i can definitely see why the purists would not approve!

    i have to admit that while the notion of a 911 screaming with a Ferrari sound is quite appealing, it is also rather strange.

    but then again, if we were all purists, we'd still be driving air-cooled flat-sixes eh? Smiley

    i have also just gotten confirmation directly from Pfaffenhausen that indeed the engine is an all-new "from the ground up" design, and not based off the Cayenne's or Panamera's V8.
