Did you try a non PASM car as well? Have you ever driven an Elise? (to compare to the 'too hard for continual street use' comment - ie: is it stiffer or not as stiff)? The only thing that scares me away from PASM is that I don't want the car to feel any softer than standard when it's in non Sport mode. I also feel that a standard car might feel more natural, although everyone says PASM is very non-electronic feeling.

I have to be honest and say I have not driven a non PASM Boxster on 19" wheels. Those that have got them say the ride is firm but good and are very satisfied. Road tests have described the PASM normal ride about equivalent to the old Boxster on 18" wheels. It certainly does not have an artificial feel about it. Even in normal, the ride is still firm. In sport mode I would say the ride is approaching that of an Exige (which I have driven) without the harshness of a BMW Z4. As a pure track car I would have thought the Exige ride is probably harder than an Elise. I seem to remember you have had an Elise, so you may well be more than happy on the ride quality without PASM.
Like all these things, it is a personal choice, and what I like, you may not. I can only suggest you try the cars yourself. As a guide, if a Boxster with and without is not available, then do what I did and try a 997 with and without. At least then you can get the feel of PASM.
