    Car and Driver just rated the Boxster S above the Corvette

    C6 Cab. Other cars compared were the Chrysler SRT-6 and MB SLK350. Though the Vette was faster around the track they felt the S had better handling abilities thus winning by one point. However they stated the S felt gutless next to the Vette.

    If you like their asessment then you will also have to accept the fact that they felt the Corvette coupe "trounced" the new 911 in their appraisal.

    Are they still selling regular Boxster's and 911's? Every test uses the S models. I wonder why?

    why don't you post some of the reviews in which F-cars are compared to Vettes and P-cars?

    That's impossible - Ferrari has an official policy of NOT letting car magazines use its cars in comparison tests. Rarely, you'll find an F car owner who will lend their car to a car magazine but I doubt they'd do it if they knew it was going to be compared to a Porsche or Corvette. The only comparisons I've seen are when the car competing with an F car is in the same price bracket.

    I think the regular Boxster (non-S) is an amazing car. I tested the new 987 in December and was very impressed, yes, it is not an S but price is also different and at the price level of the Boxster, money does make a difference for many buyers. Otherwise, every one would have CGT!

    What I mean is that if you are thinking to purchase a 911 Turbo, and the S is just 10K more, well, if you are willing to pay 150K, you probably have no problems paying 160K. However, with the entry level Boxster, you might have someone that can afford a 987 with some extras but cannot afford the S, or simply is more interested in owning the Boxster because it is a beautiful car but has no need or interest in the additional performance of the S.

    You sure understand that not every body buys cars purely based on the performance...

    Having extensively driven the base 986 I'd say that there isn't a car in that price range (or lower) that I would rather have. Granted you don't get the seat of the pants feel of the Z06 (or C6 I'm assuming), but that car is just so very well balanced you can't go wrong with it.

    I honestly think the 987S would be a dream to drive, and this coming from someone who owns a 996TT and a 360.

    Raz, I know this may sound silly, but if I go from a Boxster to a used 360 F1...what am I gaining (besides acceleration) and loosing? Do they have the same driving and balance characteristics, harsher suspension, harder to drive in city traffic etc.?

    If you read the text of that article, you'll see that they said they liked the 911 better. $15-20k better in fact, but still not enough to cover the price difference.
