Wow.    Crazy prices!    I've used the  same rims on my 911 year round and just  switched between summer and winter tires.   Worked out well for me.     I know it's not ideal as I've read somewhere tires don't like to be repeatedly mounted and dismounted.      Is this a safety issue?   Does it weaken the sidewalls?

At my dealership they routinely do this.

I wonder what  percentage  of owners that drive their P cars year round do this vs a second dedicated set of wheels and tires for winter.

One reason I was worried about getting CL wheels on my Turbo S was the cost for winter wheels. Now I actually see that the 5 lug wheels are more expensive (vs. the RS Spyder 19'' wheels). Not sure which one to take though, the 19'' may be better in snow but I do not plan to drive the car in heavy snow and the 20'' surely look better. Difficult decision.

Isn't there a decent aftermarket solution? That's a whole lot if money for some winter wheels... That's a Dacia Sandero you put on your car ;)  (almost)

There are no aftermarket solutions for CL but I usually get the Porsche wheels anyway because I have my issues with aftermarket rims (their design) and especially the offered tires (usually not N-rated...call me a romantic Smiley).

Aren't the 19" wheels only available for the 997? Smiley

At least left to the picture it says "997", whereas the other two wheels are titled "991". Smiley

    Oops...good call. kiss

I asked again and received this link to the brochure:

    http://www.porsche.com/all/media/flash/service/Winterfaszination/index.html#/10/

    You are right...997. Dammit.

So the expensive 20'' is the only choice...I was already wondering how the large PCCB discs would fit with 19''.

Christian, why don't you use the same wheels and just replace the tires seasonally?

20'' tires...they can be damaged during removal (the damage can be invisible) and re-mounting. NOT recommended.

This is valid for all tires over and incl. 18''.

Don't forget that I drive top speed quite often, too dangerous.

Are you sure that you want to have an Porsche OEM rim? I'm sure you will be able to get a decent combo for half the price, wearing the rubber of your choice?

Re: 991 Turbo/S Winter Wheels Porsche

With the prices of Porsche wheels it almost makes sense to use the tires only one summer or winter and to put new ones up every time.

First, I do not want to use the rubber of my choice because I have my experience with non-N rated winter tires (got Nokian instead of the approved Pirelli but while the Nokian was better in snow, on dry pavement, the tire was quite dangerous, losing grip instantly in curves without any warning). Especially AWS is extremely tire sensitive, you will read many reports about that once people start to use non-N rated tires. Smiley

Second, if you can tell me about any non-OEM rims with CL, you are welcomed... Smiley

Yes, a lot of money but merely 3.6% of my car's total value (210k), so I can live with that.

Also, I get a special price tag for the wheel set. The rebate isn't too high but better than nothing.

Re: 991 Turbo/S Winter Wheels Porsche

ok - with rubber of my choice I meant you can decide what brand.... usuall at the dealer you have less possibilities to say what's on that "packages" prices are on top of. "N" is a must for me, too - so even when buying outside at a tyre shop I have them.

CL - hmmm.... good point... didnt think about that. Still - check the tyre shops - they might offer OEM Porsche for less.

Nope, no OEM CL rims for the Turbo/Turbo S...just aftermarket stuff.

In the past, the rim sizes did not match the approved winter tires, unfortunately Smiley

Re: 991 Turbo/S Winter Wheels Porsche

OK, my winter wheel set has just arrived. Take a look. Official price tag is aprox. 7500 EUR. Ouch. Luckily, the dealer agreed to a "better" price but still, not cheap. I like to maintain the original look (rims, tire size), so this is the best option for me. Tires are Pirelli Winter Sottozero.

I may leave them in the original state since painting them in matte black isn't that easy (diamond cut, painting requires certain skills/preparations). I am still working on that but for now, I think I stick to the original (black/silver) color. If you look carefully, you see the black color.

Yes, the attraction is the combination with the black on the inside. Keep it that way!

Also when you return the car at end of lease, I assume they don't want your winter wheels with it so you will have to sell them privately... perhaps easier to sell if you leave them stock finish.

True but here's the problem: Those who can afford getting such a car, usually buy new wheels, which is kind of weird because they buy a used (cheaper) car. I tried to sell the winter wheels of my Panamera Turbo S to the guy who bought the car but he didn't want them. Not because they are painted in black matte but because he would rather pay 3k EUR more to get everything new (I wanted to sell it to him for half the price, tires were still pretty much OK and rims didn't have a single scratch on them). Smiley Same happened with my older 997 Turbo, I still have the winter wheels of that car and don't have a clue what to do with them. I'm not the eBay type of guy (they are too bulky), so I am hoping for one of the mechanics to find somebody who may want them at a highly reduced price (1500 EUR for the whole set, new price tag was over 5k, rims don't have scratches or anything).

I have also some rarely used 997 4S winter wheels laying around, same problem.

Re: 991 Turbo/S Winter Wheels Porsche

Why don't you use them on your 991 ?

    I use my old 997.1 4S winter wheels on my 997.2 S

I assume they don't "work" with the 991? Tire manufacturers aren't mandatory in Germany but rim sizes are, incl. offsets. If a rim isn't approved for the car, you loose your insurance coverage.
