    997TT - Autocar quote...

    In one of the sidebars in this weeks Autocar the following was printed:

    "Someone very close to Autocar has done a couple of 'unofficial' passenger laps of the Nurburgring in a prototype of the Porsche 997 Turbo, due next year. The car had a 3.6-liter 450bhp engine. He described the performance as 'on another planet'"

    OK, still some differences of opinion regarding final engine output - but loved the phrase 'on another planet'!! As long as that planet is not one with really crap cars....

    Otherwise known as a 996 Turbo.

    Could've been that they were working on the 997 platform prototype (chassis and new AWD system) with the 996TTS motor...

    Or, maybe they will really give the 997TT the 996TTS motor and save the 500hp+ 3.8L motor for the Turbos S?

    Latest rumor (which is actually pretty old): 3.8 l engine, aprox. 480 HP. The 3.6 l 450 HP engine mentioned in Autocar is actually the "old" 996 Turbo Powerkit/S engine.

    It can't be excluded that somebody "close to Autocar" drove in a 997 Turbo testmule but I highly doubt that the driver or anybody else gave away engine details, incl. displacement and power. This is way too early.

    We always hear two power figures for the 997 Turbo: 480 HP and 500 HP, never heard a rumor of less power.
    So let's hope it is going to be the 500 HP version but unfortunately I'm afraid it'll be 480 HP "only":
