    Re: Smoking Cayman...

Nice pics. Where was this taken? And by whom?

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

Nice find...the second pic is very telling

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

By a friend ...in front of the Zuffenhausen factory

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

The 2nd pic is excellent. The closest I've ever seen of a Cayman. Can you ask you friend to hang outside the factory more often and grab some more pics like this?

Well it puts pay to the argument that the Cayman S will get PCCBs as standard. Also, should the car smoke that much? My Boxster smokes a bit on start up but it's nowhere near as bad as that.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

Great pics..smoke is a bit excessive..

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

    Could be cold..

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

Man, this thing looks better and better.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

I wouldn't trade the looks of the 997 for it but I think it looks pretty good.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

    Nice shots

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

I really love the looks of this car...

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

The only thing that looks strange is the rear. The rear is smooth where on the 911 it has the spoiler. It looks like something is missing. Maybe the turbo version will look better with some type of turbo spoiler than just the Boxster spoiler.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

Nice shots indeed.....I'm still not sold on the looks though and agree with vtrader.....that spoiler looks a little stupid. Don't mind it on the Boxster but just doesn't seem to fit the Cayman. I would like to see a smaller version of the 997 type spoiler.....something that slides out horizontally rather than sticks straight up.

And yes it is smoking way too much especially since no other car appears to be smoking at all, not one bit. Almost looks like a head gasket is gone. I'm sure Porsche will make it an option named PDPC......Porsche Dynamic Piston Cleaning......$5,000

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

    Thanks a lot!!!

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

the cayman looks like an amalgamation of a 911 and a boxster ...

i hope they do something with the front/rear profile that really makes sure it doesnt infringe on the 911's territory.

i see they did a center exhaust on the rear with diffusors like the MY2003 boxster.

hopefully the front will either be the boxster front, or something different from the 911 and the boxster.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

The smoke may be caused by low air temperature combined with a cold engine and too much pedal.

The hatch is a camouflage. Notice the bad fit.
Notice also the clear protective plastic in front. Wonder what that is.

Check my suggestion that shows where I believe the true lines of the car will run.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

I love the sloping rear roofline. Looks well differentiated from the 911.

Sorry Doc, but that is not the true lines of the car. The actual lines are very different.

Vtrader, are the lines more like the 904?

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

What strikes me, and what is better visible in Doc's pic, is that the rear side windows seems to have a discontinuity... might as well not be real at all...
Maybe the rear of the cockpit is the same as the CGT?
I do hope so, but of course with a boxer engine there is no need whatsoever for the humps of the V10 behind it.

Erm, maybe. But you know just as little as I do..or have you seen the car in a pre-presentaion?

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

I bet the whole rear end of the car will be different. I think the rear we see is a Boxster rear clip with a phony hatchback applied to it. The one substantive comment I've read from someone who has seen this car is that the rear is something like a recent Ferrari mid engine coupe. This could refer either to rear butresses and/or rear 'Kamm' back, as seen on the 904 posted above. Also, to my eye, as Joost says, the CGT Targa line seems present and possible. A Kamm back is tough with bumper requirements...

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

If Porsche really wants to establish the Cayman as a completely new model and not just a Boxster Coupe, I sincerely hope that the rear will differ substantially from the Boxster. I would love to see some sort of mini-CGT roof and rear.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

Freaking ugly rear end......The 997 is like J Lo's Rear and the Cayman is like Laura Flynn Boyle's........Non Existent!

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

Ugly? I think not. It's not even the final product, the rear is still camouflaged somewhat. When the final product is revealed, I'm sure your opinion will be in the minority. Sweet looking car.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

I had my Boxster smoking like that when the Turbo blown away, so this might be a Turbo Cayman with blown Turbo
    Very nice shots.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

might be they use smoke to disguise the car.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

Notice the tape around the rear lights to disauise it as a Boxster's.

    Re: Smoking Cayman...

From what I read so far, Porsche is not pushing the Cayman as a 4th model. So I doubt they'll make huge outside design changes. Considering that it will share the inside with the boxster, I assume that changes other than the roof () wont be that dramatic.

Anyway, I'm keeping my April build Boxster S order
