I agree. Been there done that. Higer speeds make the heavier designs rub against wheels and ruin paint. You'll need stem braces which is probably tooooo much trouble.
Oh as far as kids stealing them? Whenever I see a kid's bike with Porsche valve stems on it I kick the crap out of the bike. Can't stop myself.
