    What do you think about the new ebay hidden bidder

    I realize that most cars on ebay don't ever meet reserve, but let's just say you saw a car you liked and wanted to place a bid(s) in case it did meet the reserve, or, maybe the car didn't have a reserve and it was going to sell to the high bidder...

    What do you think about the fairly new ebay policy where they use, bidder1, bidder2, etc... to identify the bidders of an item instead of using the bidders actual ebay id?

    With all the fraud going on within eBay I suspect we have already seen the peak for eBay. It's a matter of time before they either shut themselves down or the authorities do it. I believe a great deal of stolen merchandise goes through eBay,--and they are profiting from it.

    They're grasping around at new ideas but only making it worse.

    What's the reason for it? I'm sure it somehow benefits ebay and gets them off the hook with customer complaints. IMO it just hides things more and creates suspicion. BTW, ebays profits are up 52%.

    I agree re E-bay, I am a photographer and several years ago I notified E-bay of the blatant shilling taking place on camera equipment and they pretty much told me to GFM. I've heard police call it the largest fencing operation in the world!

    Still is the best place to buy a used Porsche in the US as long as you use a dealer (not individual) with excellent feedback. Those guys bend over backward to gain good feedback. The local dealers could not care less if they did a good job as they don't have negative feedback to worry about.
    The last three cars I have bought (and traded) have been via eBay using highly rated dealers. I am 100% pleased.

    I am not so certain about it being a good fencing operation as it is so out in the open and there are so many ways to identify the participants. Certainly not as secure for criminals as a dark alley.

    I agree that ebay created a market for stolen goods on the internet... but I've used them to buy really hard to find collectable stuff, and they are a great resource for that. I did have my ID hacked on ebay, so I'm happy with the new policy...

    I have bought and sold hundreds of thousands of collectibles on ebay in just the last few years, but have been buying and selling on ebay for over 10 years. I collect old Hot Wheels... And although it is a good place to find hard to find items, the new policy makes it too "anonymous", the seller can shill bid to his or her delight, and the buyer can't see who they are bidding against... In the Hot Wheel world, the people bidding know all the other people and may or may not bid depending on who else is bidding....
