March 2005: 'Right Car, Wrong Car'
Just read this article in which a 997S (PASM as standard) was directly compared to a base 997 (with 18" wheels, PCCB and standard 'mechanical' suspension i.e. no PASM). Whilst making the obvious caveats regarding top speed, engine sound, this magazine believes that the latter is a better buy...a more authentic 911 feel in respect of steering, communication from the road surface. They attribute it largely to the much reduced unsprung weight due to PCCB and the 'mechanical' suspension.
I guess this begs the question: why not get a PCCB equipped 997S?
Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner so I'm unable to share it with you. Perhaps someone else here has a copy of this month's magazine.
What do the more knowledgeable people here think about this seemingly aberrant conclusion ?
