    C4S vs RS4 - Road&Track Aug 06

The latest R&T has a comparison between the C4S and RS4. I had also considered the new RS4 when I ordered my C4S as I had really liked the quality of my old Audi TT. The RS4 is really fast,...almost identical times in acceleration vs the C4S - so, if you find yourself in a race, go for the 155-mph governed speed against the Audi!
    Enjoy!

    Re: C4S vs RS4 - Road&Track Aug 06

Nice article, thanks for posting it, Dave.

    C4S quarter-mile in 12.6 sec @110mph,
    0 - 60mph in 4.1 seconds,
    0 - 100mph in 10.5 sec.

    0.96g skidpad,
    @ 19.9 miles per gallon....not too shabby!

Check out the Test weight of the Porsche C4S at 3,640 lbs - way more that what Porsche claims (3,450). Turbo will weigh even more in road trim

    Grant,

Test weight is car and driver.

The turbo should come in just above 3600lbs. Still quite porky.

    Re: C4S vs RS4 - Road&Track Aug 06

Test weight may include a full tank of gas and any additional weight due to options not specified on the base car.

I don't think so, unless I missed that somewhere. Usually, test weight is just the vehicle with all options and fluid as tested. Please let me know where the article (or magazine) defines test weight to include driver

Yes, and although the price of this C4S Coupe was over $100k, it didn't even have PCCB which is the only option that would've lowered the weight a bit...

    Re: C4S vs RS4 - Road&Track Aug 06

I drove the RS4 recently and I have to say that it is a sensational car. It sounds like a nascar too! However it is very nose heavy and that is very noticeable in hard cornering. Would not take that over a 997.

Grant, I also thought 3640 lbs. C4S weight sounded puzzling.

I did some digging, Road & Track includes the driver weight.
...see this link to R&T's explanation of test weight and some other interesting R&T road test methods , like doing 0 - 60mph runs: "..accelerations are significantly more aggressive than prudent street behavior..." , etc.

    R&T:
"Weights: We weigh each car with a set of digital corner-weighing scales from Intercomp. Our accuracy is reported to the nearest 5 lb., slightly less than the weight of one gallon of fuel. Three measurements are reported: Curb weight is the total weight of the vehicle with all fluids and a full tank of fuel. Test weight represents the car as we tested it. Typically this is the curb weight plus a 180-lb. driver and test gear. Third is Weight distribution - the percent of overall test weight on front and rear axles. Front-wheel-drive cars are typically 60/40 (what with all the drivetrain in front); a mid-engine sports car is usually close to 50/50. Our scales don't travel; when we test a car away from the office, we rely on the manufacturer's claimed weight as an estimate..."

OK - So now we only have a discrepancy of 198 lbs. Since Damian set me straight, I see that we should be comparing the "Curb Weight" in the R&T review (3,450 lbs) to the curb weight published by Porsche (3,252 lbs on the Porsche USA website). I originally thought "Curb Weight" in the article was the factory number. That's a pretty huge misstatment on Porsche's part...

    Thanks for the info, Damian!

    Yes, what's up with THAT??

Even if you add power seat motors + Nav + Bose + ... how could these things total more than maybe 50 pounds add'l weight?? Sport exhaust is said to shave 20#.... Maybe Sport Chrono package weighs 150 lbs.?

Typical European Manufacturers - they all lie about weight.

    Re: C4S vs RS4 - Road&Track Aug 06

Maybe Porsche's Curb weight is with a small amount of fuel? That stuff weighs alot...

    Re: C4S vs RS4 - Road&Track Aug 06

Coochas, Thanks again for a very informative post - HOT OFF THE PRESS!

Same here. I friend of mine has the RS4 and we went for a drive the other day. The car is glued to the road, but with a pronounced feel on the front wheels. The car is heavy too.
The sound is great as well as the response of the engine ....very quick.
I think it's a great car for large roads. Not for twisties.
I would not, in any way, change my 997 for the RS4 ( it used to be an option for me, but not anymore...)

    Re: C4S vs RS4 - Road&Track Aug 06

I had a deposit down on the RS4 before my C4S. Haven't driven one yet, but seems to get rave reviews.

I binned the order because the new B8 platform is on the way, with the engine behind the front wheels.
Should be interesting to see what a B8 RS4 will be like.

Hopefully, when one turns in with the B8 RS4 the car actually turns in.

Audi should call its A4s U4s for Understeer.

    Re: C4S vs RS4 - Road&Track Aug 06

i test drove the rs4 last week , and its a really good car. i was impressed...
