Had a 100 Series petrol engined Landcruiser (straight 6) in the Northern Territory in the mid 1990s whilst working as a hospital doc. Think Darwin, Kakadu National Park and Crocodile Dundee.

Absolutely bullet proof. Would like to think Toyota still make them that way.

Also no speed limits on the open roads in the NT back then. Combined main and reserve fuel tank capacity of 145 litres disappeared quickly at 180km/hr in a Landcruiser

Hmmm, we might have overlapped for a bit in Darwin; I spent 30-40% of the year based there as part of overseeing a regional office within my group. (late 90s till 2010). Still have an affection for this weird town...

Re. the lack of speed limits on the Stuart Highway, one evening, I returned to my apartment at the end of the day, to find 12 Porsche 911s, all under car covers, in the underground parkade. Their owners had air-freighted their cars to Darwin (from Europe I was told), for high speed runs down the Stuart. Never saw them go, but they were gone the next evening...

Watt, your cattle are adorable! I love scottish highland cows, they look amazing and mean, but are quite docile. I remember a friend had a couple walking around in a park next to his house, and you could easily walk between them, even with a calf and bull around (the calf would try to find out whether your fingers were edible...)

Haha, that's cute! We have Coos and chooks here, same as Smiley The big ranchers don't grow them as they're slower to grow and smaller on slaughter but the meat has great attributes. Athena, Augusta and Acacia are mostly pets... who may just disappear one day.... and return in the freezer.

Yes, always. In winter especially, when the Labs are feasting on lion kill, I carry a full size Glock 20 10 mm in a chest rig. In summer a compact Glock 29 10 mm belt rig with 200 gr moose loads, as moose charges are the summer issue.

One contemplates carrying a rifle in 22 WMR/.308 scout rifle or such if the lion is on one of your Labs, but it's pointless as you might hit the dog. The handguns are for 1] the noise to scare, and 2] if they want me. Sooner or later, I'll lose a dog, but this sure beats grizzly country for relative safety!

Now, the Elk have receded from the valleys back up the mountains, and the lions and wolves follow, so up here is lion land now:

BTW, I would never come up here w/o Sun Ra to lead, or unarmed, like that it's only a matter of time.

And snowing again, every day now as we get further up and in Smiley
